How about some good ol Blacktails to spice up this thread, Got mine 2hrs into hunting opening day with my henry 41mag, And the mrs got her first deer on her first day hunting with a 6.5x55 I built. We have a total of 5hrs into hunting this year...I am jealous of you multiple deer folks, Only one a year here.
Thanks. I've hunted three years with the recurve. I'll never go back.
Sooner,
THAT buck is worthy of the wall. If for no other reason than his unique rack on his right side.
You know, I've gone back and forth on this subject as to if it's a mule deer or whitetail and I still haven't come to any real conclusion. The way his rack starts and then bifurcates into two more beams makes me think mule deer, but his ears don't seem big enough. So I'm still debating on if it's a mule or white tail.
I have heard that they, whitetail and mule deer, have been known to cross breed. I have a vague recollection that blacktail deer antlers sometimes had that look to them as well. Either way it's a fine buck.
Sooner,
Unless you shot that deer in western/northwestern Oklahoma, it's a whitetail. It looks like a whitetail. It's built like a whitetail. But....there is a chance that somewhere in its genetic code was a recessive gene from a crossbreed a long time ago. But I think you just have a really cool whitetail who's right mainbeam split while growing. Regardless, I'm jealous. It's an awesome trophy.
Oh yeah it counts......but we would have liked to see it.Got a doe yesterday evening but didn't get any pics.
Guess it don't count.
Gtscotty , that is some TV show hunting you did , beautiful country and a great stalk and kill . I would love to trade freezers with you . Great job with the hunt , pictures and story .

Sooner,
Congrats on the yote! For an animal so weary, it's amazing how dumb and blind they can be sometimes. I had a friend a couple weeks ago kill two while duck hunting. They were actively engaging ducks and two yotes ran out to the pond bank to attack the decoys not 20 yards from them. And they weren't starving either. I've got pics of them somewhere.
Btw, after looking at that pic I think I've changed my mind on your deer..... definitely an antelope.
