Hi,

The last hunting license I had was when I was a resident of California and it was for the 2009/10 season. I now live in New York. While I live in the city, if I chose to go hunting in the country would the California license from 09/10 count toward proof of a previous license even though it is from a different state? Does a previous license count in any state even if the license is not from that state itself?

Thanks

Would it prove you previously had a hunting license from California? Yes. Would it count for anything? Depends on what you are after.

I'm pretty sure it could serve as proof of completion of a hunter's ed course, as long as CA requires you take one prior to getting a license there. Have you checked the NY Game and Fish website to see if it mentions anything about it there?

I still don't understand this one.
Does New York require you to have a previous license for some reason?

New York requires proof of completion of a hunter's ed course or a previous licence to get a new licence. I am not looking to take the 10 hour course to get a New York Licence and I was wondering if anyone knew if New York accepted an out of state (CA in my case) expired licence as proof of having a previous licence. I had to do a two day educational course plus live firing exercise years ago when I was little and got my first California hunting licence.
