What would be a good, smallish semi-auto pistol that could be used for hunting varmints and pests? Would one of the Bersas serve this funtion? I was looking at getting one in .380ACP. I realize there are range limitations in such a set up, but I think tht is part of the fun and challenge. Besides, practice makes perfect and I can't think of any practice that would be more fun.

Does anyone here do any hunting with small semi-auto pistols? what do you use?

What I am looking for is a small, compact type semi auto that is accurate enough for short range vermin shooting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The only one I've used is a Ruger Mark III Standard .22 w/ 4" tapered barrel. A Buckmark would probably work too. The thing is, they're not "small".

You can get squirrels and rabbits if caught sitting, but I haven't tried for anything else. Well, yeah, rats have qualified too.

The other smaller ones designed for concealed carry just don't have the accuracy for me. Sorry to have to say that. You can try anything for the fun of it, but you will probably not eat well if what you shot was all you had.

Good luck ~ have fun!

Interesting idea. My Sig P232 is very accurate and has a good trigger pull if you cock it first. However never tried or thought of using it that way. I find 22's great for that purpose, but don't know if you can go to a size smaller than the Browning or Ruger MK in a .22 and get their accuracy and reliability. I've used a Ruger SP101 revolver loaded with #8 shot or wadcutters to take out Copperheads and Rattlesnakes when I mow. Let us know what you decided to use and how it worked.

.380 would obliterate small varmints! from my experience bersas are good guns, but if your serious about huntin some little varmints I'd probably get a .22 like these guys are saying.
