I would like some of your thoughts on what you think would be a good....fun to shoot Range/practice pistol. The paramiters would be: $650 or less, semi-auto, in 40 caliber S&W or 9mm, and accurate. I am at this point thinking XDm.
Thoughts/Comments...........

Welcome to THR Dickieray,

A lot of this really depends on you, how much experience/training you have, how big you are/size of hands, etc.

Accuracy is pretty-much inherent with all modern firearms -being able to hit targets and group bullets really depends on your abilities, experience, and practice. "accurate" also means different things to different people: some compete in Bullseye and shoot slowly, others want speed + accuracy, some shoot 25yards, 100yards while others only shoot @ 7yards (and still can't group). -It can take you decades to figure-out what "accurate" means to you.

With all of that said, the Springfield XD is a very good pistol in all calibers.

Now thats a question that will get you a few different answers. As far as semi autos go, I think my Walther P99 .40 is a good all around gun and fun at the range. Im sure the 9mm is also. There's a lot of good choices out there.

CZ 75B or for a few more $ the SPO1.
For an inexpensive range gun the single action 75B is hard to beat. Less than $500, very very accurate, all steel, points naturally, good trigger, $18 Mec-Gar mags/16+1 in 9mm, easy-to-find inexpensive parts. Use the savings to buy ammo. If tack-driver accuracy is important, new sights will fill the bill.

+1 on the CZ.

I love my $530 SP01 on the range, I even took a tactical pistol class with it. 19rd mags keep you shooting a lil longer. For me the SP01 is alil big for carry. My XD9 is my all around gun. Accurate and fun to shoot and still a fair size for carry.

I second the .22 suggestion.. I bought a 9mm and a .40.. ammo costs really started hurting the wallet. I bought a nice .22, and I think in the end I'll end up save the money it cost to buy the gun just in ammo savings!

I would also agree with the CZ, it is one of the most accurate handguns I have fired, and affordable at the same time.

The XD would be good, and you get the industries best service to go with it. I would second the 22 option as well. I use both an Advantage Arms conversion kit and a Ruger MKIII for training and practice. Both work out great.

CZ75 and a Kadet. Get the CZ used perhaps. You can find them for 350-400. Kadet kit will be around 270.

Shoot, get yourself a Taurus 24/7 in either of those calibers for centerfire fun and HD and still have enough left over for a decent 22lr pistol for cheap range practice and plinking fun.

Have a good friend in Ft. Collins that shoots the 24/7 in .40S&W, he has had it for over a year now and shoots it regularly, as far as I know never had a single problem with it. I have shot it several times and sure seems like a nice shooter.

Jest tossing out a few here:
XDSC-a 40 is one o' my main CCW, but a 9 might be more "fun" to shoot (and cheaper). The XDSC is a darn accurate little gun, with option of LaserMax if you so desire later (no reason why it can't be fun to shoot and also a SD gun).

SIG SP2022? There are specials out there for $495-9mm with night sights, 3 magazines, extra backstrap-just picked one up.

Thanks for the input guys.......I appreciate the thoughts. As a result I will take a closer look at CZ because I am not very familiar with them and have never "held" one. Thanks again!!!;)

Once you hold one you will more than likely be hooked. My sp-01 is my first CZ and it feels and shoots like a dream.
