$96 for 192 Rd Spam cans packed in enbloc clips and bandoleers.
$120 for 240 rds in Spam can packed in 20 rd boxes.

Thanks for the FYI. Wow, $384.00 for 768 rounds is a bit much. I paid $200.00 for the same ammo. So it has gone from .26 cents per round, to
.50 cents per round in about 2 years.

Wow!

I hope we don't start seeing dealers at GS's with TONS of CMP ammo at 50% markup of that. The CMP was never meant to be a supplier to commercial dealers for cheap ammo to make a killing on.
On the last supply, by the time they put limits on purchases, the bulk of the ammo had been dried up.

Time to get a set of 30-06 dies and start recycling that HXP brass. I think I can reload for about $0.40 a round or so.

Yeah, it is available, but it is now more expensive than I can reload for.

Personally, I think I will buy a can or two for times when I just want to plink and don't have any loaded. I guess I will also be wanting that brass too!

.50 a round for garand ammo doesn't make me feel quite so bad about paying $1.00 a round for my 6.8 spc - I've really got to start reloading.

It's starting to sound like folks already have a supply, and thus demand will decrease. As demand decreases, so will the price.

That is what happens in a competitive market, the surplus 30-06 market is not anywhere close to being perfectly competitive, there are very few sellers. Therefore the primary seller, the CMP has a whole lot of say in what the price is, and it is very doubtful that it will be lowered significantly.

I doubt it. I'll bet the prices negotiated with the Greeks were based on the high prices of mid-'09 and the demand of Garand buyers in the States. Remember: the Greeks are broke (broker than we are), so they needed every penny they could squeeze out of Orest. I'm sure he worked hard on the deal, but I don't see him now cutting the price to lose money.

Anyone know: is the CMP a for-profit or not-for-profit business? While it was chartered by Congress, it is independant of the government.

At either rate, they've got an investment to protect, and that investment is gonna cost us $.50/round.

I think I can reload for about $0.40 a round or so.

With the learning curve on reloading for the Garand, plus the time investment involved in reloading rifles, I'm thinking ten cents difference a pop is a good deal. As it is, I hardly have time to reload to shoot pistols. Having factory ammo, albeit surplus, that won't drive a bolt back into my eye is a comforting piece of knowledge. I'm saving my brass, and maybe some day I'll change my tune, but for now, no reloads for me.

PS. post #2000! Woohoo

Its still not a bad price. Heck you can shoot it and sell the brass for .8 -.10 per rd. That gets your cost down.
When you look at what Berdan primed 7.62x51 surplus is going for HXP looks like a pretty good deal.
Looked at the price of commercial 45 acp lately HXP looks even better.
Ammo has gone up drastically everywhere, Greek HXP has gone up a small amount considering
