I’ve got 99 cases…

You have a 100 round box with 99 matching headstamps. What do you do about the last one?

  • Prime and load 99, it’s close enough and you’re fine with one solo primer left in that sleeve

There wasn't a choice for searching until you that one lost piece of brass to rejoin the 99. Very biblical sounding that choice would be be.

I voted for leaving the box at 99 although I have to admit I have a couple of 100 size boxes of year matched LC brass where I have a good amount of extras in reserve. When I have a casualty due to a loose pocket or something I dip into the replacement battalion and bring it back up to full strength.

I do wish all my stuff was like that but it isn't so some imperfect things have to be accepted.

What's really weird is, 99 primers in a sleeve doesn't bother me one bit but, 49 ready-to-load cases in a 50/pcs box drives me nuts. Put those same cases in a baggie and all is good with the world again.
I blame it on my uncle Charlie. And coffee.
On a similar note, I suggest ammo companies should make 54 round boxes available so I don't have two left over after shooting eight cylinders in my six shooters. It's annoying.:cuss:

I have the solution to that but you probably won’t like it: the first cylinder is two rounds placed randomly with four snaps. It starts me off with less flinching and ends up with an empty box. If I’m shooting a traditional single action I will load 5, sometimes 6 and to even things up I’ll load random and check my flinch.

Last week I shot 30, brought 20 home, cleaned them with the guns and refilled them same night. Just 30 on a single stage with a known recipe and dippers goes real quick.

I can't imagine how some of you guys must agonize over shooting up a full 100 round box of reloads with a six shooter. What in the world do you do with the two empty chambers at the end of the session?
That's easy.
I shoot groups of 5 with revolvers, for exactly that reason.
My brother and I were at the range last weekend. We each had a Ruger Blackhawk along, his in .45 Colt and mine in .357 magnum.
He asked why I was shooting 5 instead of 6. I told him because with a 50 round box, it was 10 groups.
He made fun of me. lol

That works for me. When I'm range blasting, I load my pistol magazines with 5 rounds no matter how many they'll hold. My 5 round groups are better than my 10 round groups (duh!) and it makes me feel like I'm a better shot than I am. ;)

Very good idea. I start with dry firing anyway and random would be better. I never had a flinch problem until I started buying/shooting Perfecta 158 gr FMJ 357 by the thousands when Wally World had them for $18/50. Shot so many had to have a new Ruger GP100 rebarreled after two years. When shooting two handed my left arm is slightly bent and when I anticipate/flinch I straighten/push forward my left arm. Shots go high right. Last trip I shot right hand only, fully extended right arm and shots stayed on target. Tough habit to break.

I don't give a flyin' flip about that 100th case, but if I did, I'd ask one of you guys to send me one with a matching headstamp. Heck, I'd even fork over the cost of the case + postage!
