I think this MOSTLY applies to semi autos, but I find myself to be in no particular "club" when it comes to semi auto handguns or types of same. I kind of like them all. First, there are those people that are in the sometimes exclusive "1911 Club", and swear by a 1911 .45, or other appropriate cartridge, but have a variation, full size, micro, commander, Bobtail, etc, and move up to the exclusive end of the chain when the gun goes from $500 to the $4000-$5000 mark. To them, anything else is unsuitable. Then there is the "Glock Club". No fancy stuff or $5K guns for them. Simplicity, and stock, most often beat out the custom guns, although those guys with Glocks that have been sanded down or stippled up are allowed to belong. Then there are the HK (does anyone sand down the grip on their HK?), SIG, CZ, HiPower, etc clubs. Not as big at the first two, but still very loyal followers to each. I just can't commit; I love them all. I see beauty in each, and rotate my concealed carry, etc, to make time with my guns. Does anyone else suffer this "promiscuous" relationship with firearms, or are you in a committed relationship, looking away from the rest?

I wouldn't join any club that would have me for a member.

To whatever extent I am a "fan" of anything, it is only because the product has a track record of working for me.

SDM I think you're in the majority. My handgun collection is eclectic, and I expect it to get more so. If I found a design that I felt was leaps and bounds above any other, I suppose I'd gravitate in that direction, but so far I've found strengths and weaknesses in each gun I own.

Lately, planning my next purchase, I've been looking at Glock's, Ruger Vaquero's, FNP 45's, BHP's, and S&W 10's.

*disclaimer: I am am member of the THR Rem. 1858 club, but I only have one

I'd have to say I feel the same way. We have a tendency to get very specific about preferences, etc, which creates an almost imaginary divide between this and that. We turn negligible differences between firearms into deal-makers or deal-breakers. There's nothing wrong with this, I mind you... But it does make it awkward to run into a hardcore fan of one thing who has more or less shut everything else out.

I struggle to appreciate the 1911, though. That's blasphemous to so many, but it's true. They are huge in my hand, heavier than anything else I've ever shot with regularity, and are silly for carry (bigger than others than hold 2x the capacity). Like I appreciate Freud for being a pioneer, I appreciate the 1911... But that doesn't necessarily mean I should be a Freudian therapist.

My favorite handguns are diverse... ALL Glocks, Kahrs for deep concealment, Taurus 24/7s, Beretta Storms, the Sig P2022, EAA Witness, and Bersa Thunders. It's kind of random, but these all have traits that I highly value.

As I do have my preferences and requirements concerning my firearms, that doesn't mean that I'm not open to any and or all possibilities for said weapons. Being in a difficult physical capacity, paralyzed on one side, I need to be able to fill any and or all options with whatever manufacturer that can fill those needs.

With that being said, I don't feel the need or desire to look down on or berate a person for his/her decision in firearms. If an individual is happy with a Hi-point at $150+- or a Wilson at $5000, it's not up to me to tell a person what he or she should be carrying or using. If they are happy with it, then so am I. As far as that goes, I own and use a CZ 83, a Ruger SR9, a Bersa Thunder 9 UC Pro, a SA EMP .40, a Taurus mod 66 and a Smith mod 66. So just which club would I belong to if I were so inclined.

And as far as clubs go, the only ones I'm really a member of are the NRA as a life member and as a member of the United States Navy SeaBees. Now a veteran.

You should join the NRA first the the HK club. But I own lots of varieties as well. No, I keep sandpaper away from my HK's.

and then theres the rest of us
and actually fanatics are the rarity, and well
being really really brand loyal, tends to make me question the person, cuase
there are MANY ways to butter bread, and claiming any only is the one and only BEST
is just silly.

It seems to me that most of the single brand "club" members are mostly "club" members only on the internet.

I suppose it's pretty hard to tell someone how much better your brand is than theirs, when they're right beside you at the range, their gun's working perfectly, and they're outshooting you.

I'm only in the "if it works well, I like it" club.

I agree totally in that I'm a fan of almost all guns and like having a nice mixture in my collection. Call me permiscuous. I find I shoot striker fired,DA/SA and SA pretty much the same. I'm comfortable with them all. The DA's like my S&W 642 and a KelTec P11 I used to own were the exception, they are harder to shoot accurately because of their very heavy trigger pull, but still serve a purpose.

I am part of the shoot what you like club. I have a 1911, a Glock, some Rugers and some Kahrs. I'll probably pick up a Sig and/or CZ later this year.

I have a bunch of different kinds, which is just how I want it. I do have some stronger preferences for some, but I just can't stand fanboys in almost any circumstance in life. Unless I have a personal relationship with the owner of a particular company, it is just business--best value for the features that most closely fit my tastes.

I am a well known Ruger fan, and I will admit that I usually look to Ruger first for my shooting wants. Fact is, Rugers have always worked for me, I don't care what a dead guy said 20 years ago, and the billboard never bothered me. I have jokingly referred to myself as a Ruger fanboy before, and there really is a kernel of truth to that.

But...

But I like guns, period. As such, I have owned and enjoyed a number of guns from a number of companies. Fact is, most of the guns on the market today will funtion and work just fine. Split hairs about grip angles and manufacturing processes and everything else all you want, but at the end of the day, it's pretty hard to buy a crappy gun. Not just a handgun, either. I mean that across the board.

Clubs are for seals!

Okay, that was bad...

I just joined the "black gun" club with the purchase of a Glock several months ago. Prior to that, my only handguns were a PA-63 in 9x18, and a '57 Ruger Standard. Since then, I've also adopted an FN model 1906 in 6.35mm. I had a MPA Mac-10 in .45, but it sold to buy a shotty.

I have Martini action .22 single shots, a 12 ga pump, have a sporterized Japanese rifle in 6.5mm on layaway, and am negotiating to trade a sprint car quickchange rear end for a 45/70 lever gun.

So, I guess I just like guns. And loading ammo, too.

What's next? heck if I know. Maybe I could 'Wiley Coyote' together a flamethrower...

-Bill
