I am now a committed fan of the 625

Doc and Dave ... thx for your input ... I am getting a better picture now tho not quite complete. I guess best way eventually will be to see things in operation on the range if someone has something like this.

Also - I'm an engineer so a bit of thought should enable me to fathom the necessary mechanics ..... just need a bit of ''application''!:p

Nice Revolvers all! How does the recoil of 230gr ammo compare to a .357 686?? Inquiring minds want to know.:D

Don, from my perception .... the .357 would be much more obvious a recoil.

Std .45acp in the M25 is about like .38spl+P .... certainly not at level of 357 mag. VERY pleasant to shoot .... keep the ammo comin and I'll shoot it all day!:p

I like this one - just slip it over the brass, or round, and gently twist.

Aha ... useful Atticus, thx. Now to find some tube and fire up the lathe ... that will do the trick.

Outa interest ... in 2nd pic ... the round nearest camera ... that primer looks set awful deep!! Others too look pretty deep.

I've been considering a 686 to compliment my vintage M/P .38, but, as I recently joined the .45 ACP 1911 Club, the 625 looks like a great addition:
Mighty Purdy! ........the 686 will have to wait a bit longer:rolleyes:

I'm in agreement with P95....

Recoil low and the fun never stops....

p95:

My 45acp wheelgun is a 1950 model 25. But I think I'll have to have a 625.

I used to load/unload my half-moon clips by hand. After bloody fingers and bruised fingernails I quit.

Then came full-moon clips and de-mooner. Loading full moon clips is easy. Unloading with the de-mooner is also easy.

BTW, you can get full-moon clips and the de-mooning tool at Dillon Precision.

I went shooting over the week end. The Rimz worked fine in my 625-3.

My shooting buddy has a 625-2 and the cylinder will not close with the
Rimz.

If the Rimz works it is indeed wonderful.

Suggest trying a small pack before ordering more.

I got a few Rimz to try and in my M625-6 they fit fine .... only downside to me is that the rounds are not held tight and so the case mouths tend to catch and make a speedload fiddly .. the full moon std clips make the speedload much easier IMO.

I made a de-mooner out of some steel tube and now find it only a minor hassle emtying a clip of empties. So - steel clips for me (must get more) for IDPA useage but RIMZ will be fine for general range convenience.

Gary, that pic of yours looks like a modern version .. because of the cyl release button. You didn't mention the ''dash'' lineage ... under the crane ass'y. 625-2 is dated 1989 .... as is 625-3. 624-4 is 1990 and listed as 45LC. 625-5 in 1991, listed as 5" barrel and 45LC. The 625-6 runs thru 1993 - 1997, and finally the 625-7 listed as 1998.

In 1995/6, with 625-6. the square butt configuartion is shown as deleted.

Gary,
That picture appears to be a Mountian Gun, 625. It was produced fairly recently. If I recall correctly, they were made in 45 colt, 45acp, 44, 10mm, and 40. I looked at those a few years ago prior to getting my 625 PC version. My 625 is a great shooter. I have only used steel moonies. They hold much firmer than my 627x8, which give me very quick reloads during IDPA match.

It's not love yet, but we're getting there. The day I can put 6 rds. into one hole @ 25 yds. with my 625, is the day I forsake all others. Until then, my heart belongs to my Performance Center 629PP.

I love my 5" 625-6. I'm also in agreement with the general consenus regarding the Rimz clips. They're great for range use, but I would be hesitant to rely on them when the heat is on, whether competition or life/death.

I like mine more every time I fire it. Mine has been converted by Clark Custom to .460 Rowland. The flexibility of handloading the .460R also adds a whole new dimension to this gun. I have two barrels, a 3" and 5".
I recently had the 5" installed so I can use it for hunting deer this year. Shooting moderate .460R loads outa the 5" is a joy...and different enough from .45acp to keep it interesting.

fedlaw- I've shot your 625, and I know that we could have much more than a meaningful relationship- I could easily love it. Take $25 and a lunch for it?

Chuck

I love my 45APC revolvers! I have S&W 625s in 4" and 5". Both are Model of 1989. I have the new 625-10 scandium or 325 in my sights.

Took my 625-5" to the range today. I still cannot shoot it as accurately as my .44, but for all around defensive use, it cannot be beaten.
