Just 2 pictures of my first assembly (not a build as I used a barreled upper;))

This rifle belongs to a friend of mine. We decided to put together a pair of KISS M4geries using the components of our choice.

We put this one together in about 20 minutes, including 5 minutes to watch an online video of how to assemble an AR lower. It was very easy to do with no problems with any of the Double Star LPK components or the Essential Arms lower. Castle nut is staked & rear sight has blue Locktite on the bolts.

Mine will be identical except for a Daniel Defense A1.5 rear sight instead of the Magpul folder. eventually I will add an Aimpoint T1 in DD's MicroMount as well.

Took her to the range today for initial zero and break in:

Function tested, she locks back on 1 round of Wolf 75gr., Brown Bear 55 gr., Centurion 55gr. and XM-193 so the H-buffer is GTG.

All functioning was smooth with ejection at 2-3 o'clock.

Trigger was very nice and smooth for MILSPEC type. It broke clean and consistent at about 5 lbs.

Ran about 140 rounds through her into standard 100 m. bullseye targets from 100m off of sandbags. The first shot before adjusting anything was 12" high 6" Left.

After zeroing, our best 5 shot groups were running 2"- 2.5" with the Centurion. My friend did get a 3 consecutive shot cloverleaf inside the center ring .5" right of the x but the next 2 shots opened it up to 2". So by internet standards, this rifle will shoot sub moa groups with MBUS all day long:rolleyes:

The components are:

BCM: barreled 16" upper, auto bolt carrier group, charging handle, and receiver extension assembly with spring and H buffer.

Essential Arms: lower receiver

Magpul: MOE handguards, grip, stock and rear MBUS.

Double Star: lower parts kit.

Noveske: QD endplate and QD sling swivel.

Cost as described was $ 1,150.00 when all delivery charges and the transfer were added up.

Thanks!

No, I would describe the rear sight as a hybrid. While it has an adjustment finger knob like the A2, the increments are not as fine, similar to the A1. It does have the 2 in line apertures like the A1 as well.

No, the Magpul MOE handguards are not a free float type.

They replace the original guards with no modification. I used them because we prefer the ergonomics and they were designed to accept rail sections at the 10, 2, and 6 o'clock positions to attach a light and a vertical grip.

They went on nice and tight with less "slop" than I have experienced with some originals.

Nice rifle! Sounds like a good shooter as well.

I have a model 1L Stag setup very similar. I have all black furniture with a CTR stock and Moe handgaurds and I have a Moe pistol grip on order.

I've not run into any with more "slop" than the Colt LE Carbines. Its stopped me from plunking down my money on one several times.

Very nice! Looks familiar too!

Going to change it up a bit, and the butt stock turned out to be the wrong color, but I do like the fore arm.

Those Magpul handguards are starting to show up in a lot of photos lately. I haven't got my hands on a set, but they look like a quality piece and the reputation is obviously growing. I dig KISS guns. Yours looks good!

P.B.Walsh,
You have to buy the rail sections separately. They come in short and long sections and fit the slots at 10, 2 and 6 o'clock.

As of this time the MOE handguards are only available in carbine length.

Magpul is a very cool company, given time I'm sure they will have them available in all 3 major sizes.

ok, thanks, they need to come out with some mid-lenght ones, but I guess that they have to satify all the mall-ninja "I got a M4 look alikers"....:)

"middies" make more sense from a functional point of view.

If my goal was to make handguards for the most logical 16" AR I would make them for mid-lengths.

However, if my goal was to sell boucoup handguards I would make them for the more common and most commonly modified AR type. Hence the M-4 length first.

Now, do they make the full length next or the mid length?

There are certainly more full lengths out there than mids but, what percentage of them would swap out the handguards? Mids are a thinking man's M-4, M-4 owners like to do stuff to their stick.

My guess is mid lengths next:evil:

Nice lookin' piece. Great Photos
Nephew of mine undertook a project similar to yours.
Kudos !

Nice job. I have been thinking about the Magpul MOE handguards myself. I figure that since the price is right for them, I really can't go wrong.
