I recently had the itch for a 1911-22. I bought a Colt 1911 Gold Cup 22. Its made by Walther, and imported by Umarex. Yes... I understand its not really a Colt Gold Cup, but thats what it says on the slide. I really like this pistol, and one of the reasons I chose it over the other 1911 22s on the market was that it comes with a 12 round magazine. It has a quality feel, and shoots well. I started looking for magazines, and there are none. I cant find extras anywhere. I really like the idea of 12+1. With the current atmosphere concerning guns, and a looming high capacity magazine ban, I was worried that I wouldnt get another 12 round magazine. These pistols ship to areas that dont allow more that 10 rounds, with a 10 round magazine, instead of the 12 round mag. I imagine that very soon, all the new Colt 1911 22 pistols will have 10 round mags. I wont be surprised if, and when, the next shipment of magazines becomes available, the 12 rounders will be gone.

So today, I stopped by my favorite shop, and bought a Colt Government Model 1911-22. I know thats crazy... and I never thought I would be swayed by the hysteria that seems to be happening today, but I am happy I have 2 magazines now. When the next shipment of magazines becomes available, If all I can get are 10 rounders, that will be ok, but I sure would like 12s if they are available.

SD9 magazines.

I have been patiently waiting for S&W SD9 16 round 9MM magazines to become available again for a what seems like forever. I would like to get a couple more for my wifes handgun but I'm not sure its going to happen.

S&W does make a 10 round magazine for the handgun and it appears as though the only difference is the indentation they stamp in the magazine during manufacture so it will only accept 10 rounds. I wonder what the legal implications would be if you took the magazine apart did a little metal forming to remove the indentation and then reassembled the magazine thus turning it back into a 16 round mag.

This makes my head hurt...:D

A "Colt GC"... more or less
in .22
made by an airsoft company
for Walther markings sharing and importation
distributed by Smith & Wesson

Cool product but a real headache for at least three levels of brand loyalty.

This aint a dig, just an observation of what it seems to take to get things done these days.

Or, in other words... I gotta go to Smith & Wesson to get a Colt .22 Gold Cup?

Though they may be fine guns,I was sorry to see Colt, allowing their name to be used on the Umarex, etc. guns. But I know, it's ALL about money,e.g., S&W, Colt, Remington, Winchester logos on Chinese knives and tons of other products. Gotta admit I just can't bring myself to buy these Colt/S&W/Remington/Winchester/etc/etc. branded products. Yes, I shop at ChinaMart too, but just don't buy the knock-off products using traditional old American firearm's companies names...ymmv

weblance, glad you got your magazine. I may not have bought a gun to get a magazine, but have have gone through some expensive contortions myself to obtain some item I wanted ;-)

Wait - instead of having a pistol with one magazine too few for it you now have a second pistol with no magazine until and if?;)

I guess you can go all Bruce Willis in Last Man Standing in .22 flavor now, eh?:D

Gee Ed... Why didnt I think of that...? hmmm. What a brilliant Idea. Thanks for the tip...

When I was more into the semi-autos back a bit, I would not buy a gun if it did not have 2 full capacity mags with it. Mags have always been a problem procuring with autos and they always have inflated price tags.

That is probably why I have owned so many Berettas. Tons of surplus mags out there.
