Well, my search is done. I FINALLY bought the new rifle I have been after for 6 months or so.

I ended up with a Tikka T3, laminated, stainless in .270 WSM
$730 after taxes and I’m ready to bolt on the 3x9-40 Burris Fullfield II in nickel (for now).

I’ll try to get write up a range report once I get a chance to sight it in, if anyone would be interested.

Thanks for all that helped, in one way or another, on my 3-5 threads that I used to finally select my new tool.

Any .270wsm ammo suggestions for white tails???

(…And so a new search will begin!)

CONGRATS!

Nosler Balistic Tips or Accu-bonds are always a good choice for white tail. Thats what I use in my 30-06, but I dont think a deer will be able to tell the difference.

P.S. any pics?

I'll post some tonight. I picked it up late last night.

Accubonds and the XP3's (Winchester Elite) were what I wanted to try first.

My thought with the accubonds is

they are tough enough that if the shot is close they will hold to getherwhen expanding, however, at longer distances they will still expand reliably. I also get very good groups with them, but try a few different loads because sometimes your rifle will just click with one.

That's exactly what I need. I have shots anywhere from 15 to 150 yards and I want only one selection for short and mid range.

I'm not sure I understand the attraction to stainless, but then again some people don't understand why I like laminated wood.

Lets see a picture of this bad boy.

Congrats! Nice rifle!

If you do your job, the type of ammo won't matter. A 270 will down a whitetail all day long with the right shot placement. Just sight it in good and you'll be in business. ;)

Having agreed with the above, I really like the Federal 130 SGK and the 130 Nosler Solid Base Boat Tail, the Hornady 140 gr has also worked very well for me.

Currently I am shooting the 130 grain Nosler solid base over 54.5 gr IMR 4350 and CCI primers for .770 CC 5 3 shot groups.

I have had good luck with Reloader 22 and the 140 gr Hornady and IMR 4831 and the 130 gr SGK.

This is all in a Tikka T3 light SS.

Karbon,
Ballistic tip in 150 gr worked well for mine.

I've taken boar from 20 yards to 150 yards and they usually drop right on the spot. I'd guess that a deer wouldnt be a problem.

Carles S,
Where did you find Hornady in WSM? I've been wanting to try some.

Newman,

My 140 gr Hornady ammo is what I handloaded. I have heard the Hornady is coming out with WSM ammo, but I have yet to see confirmation of that on Hornady's website.

Great guys, Thanks again.

I've heard issues with the Nosler BT's over 3000fps at close range, but then again I don't want too little expansion. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Hornadys.

I'll have the pics up shortly!

Thats why I like the Accubonds

All of the good points of the ballistic tip but none of the catastrophic failure (aka. Explosion) that may happen when close range is combined with high velocity.

POSTED IMAGES

Just posted the pics. And yes, I know my rings are not tight. I'm trying to decide if I want something else...

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks again for helping me select my newest rifle.

Congratulations Karbon. Very nice rifle and the scope also looks good on it. I will also recommend staying with a bonded or Barnes bullet. Have you checked www.shortmags.org ?
