I stabbed my poor .357mag Ruger SP101 in the back today and bought a gun to replace him as a carry option. He was just a little bit too heavy to be comfortable. He is not being stuck in the safe though, he will be allowed to stay in the truck as a back up.

I broke down and bought my first S&W. I bought an Airweight 637-2 .38spl+P revolver today. I am not sure how I feel about the tapered barrel but this is a very nice little revolver. It only weighs 15oz and is very well made.

The best part is it fits all the same holsters as my Taurus 731 .32 H&R Mag so I do not even have t buy a new holster. :)

PS: Anyone know what the -2 part of 637-2 means?

AFAIK the -2 means a revision of some sort.

Like M1911 vs. 1911A1. They keep the 3-digit model number like a brand, but the real number is the full number.

BTW I think Ruger casts the frames for those things, so you didn't stray TOO far.

You will love it, and besides, I've always thought Ruger makes the best truck guns. It's kind of like a spare tire only you can shoot things with it.

Congrats, PlayboyPenguin. A 15 oz. S&W is a wonderful thing to carry. Just be aware that your 637 has a lot of cousins that will want to come and live with you now. ;)

A good thing about a Ruger in the truck is even if it runs out of ammo it is still a very deadly weapon if thrown and in bad weather you can stick them in the bed for added rear traction. Get it...They weigh a ton. :)

How did you fall into our fold. Politically you pretty much swing the other way, and that is not a bad thing, I just get a chuckle.

At any rate you got yourself a good piece. Course that Ruger can be used for a bludgen, car jack, hammer, etc. etc. etc. :D

Good to have you on our side.

I am actually pretty conservative about most things political. I am just not a neo-con and do not try to politicize everything. Somethings should be left out of politics. (like religion, childcare, healthcare, the enviroment, guns, sexual preferences, etc)

I am a repubican and still believe in what the republican party used to stand for before being taken over by cheap labor loving neo-cons. But I am also an enviromentalist, an animal lover, a humanist, and a gun/freedom lover. I am a paradox, wrapped in a riddle, then dipped in semisweet chocolate for flavor. :D

I think lot of people fall into the "you have to be a neo-con to like guns" trap. Truth is...neo-cons do as much damage to gun ownership as far lefties do. They just do it quietly and lie about it to your face and then tell you the "liberals" did it.

Yeah, this S&W lacks that feature. Throwing this thing at them would be like hitting them with a medium size rat turd.:D

Funny I met somebody once who owned one of those S&W unobtanium uberlightweight revolvers in .357 and he would always joke that if he was ever mugged he would hand over his wallet and then pull the gun saying take this damn thing too. :D

i have both, the 637 and an SP 101 3". the ONLY advantage the S&W has is lighter weight. if i have to stake my life on one....it's the SP 101 by a country mile.

The dash-2's started in 2001 and incorporated the internal lock not found on the -1's.

Congrats on the Airweight, really easy guns to carry. I know I carry mine quite often just out of convenience. :)

You said .38special.

How many rounds ?

Is there a .44 version?

I guess its to small for .44 right.

I have that exact same gun on my hip right now, it is my primary carry piece.

Go to the range and run a target out to 50' or so, you might suprise yourself at what that little gun can do.

Oh my god! I just got back from the range with it and I was amazed. I put the target at 25' for the first 5 shots and got a grouping about the size of a soup can lid. I was amazed since this was my first time shooting it.

I then moved the target out to 50' and shot for the head. Same results. This time a grouping about 5" total diameter. How can this little monster be so accurate?

I will have to admit, after shooting my first S&W, they are more accurate than their Taurus cousins.

Easier to carry, especially in a pocket. I've been totin' my 3" Rossi 68 today IWB just for the heck of it. It's 1900 hours and it's beginning to get heavy on the belt and it's only 22 ounces, a few ounces shy of the Ruger. My Taurus 85UL is my usual carry revolver, 15 ounce Taurus version of your Airweight and it's quite a bit lighter on the hip and with its 2" barrel can ride in a pocket. But, I like to mix it up and carry something different now and then. :D

I might get a Ruger SP101 3" eventually. I don't know how much I'll be tempted to tote it, though, considering I have lighter, easier to carry guns.

Smith's are more everything than a Taurus, and are no relation at all, thank you...
