I butchered my 1851.

arcticap: I would rather have done something like that since the blue finish is quite lousy and can be rubbed off if done hard enough. But there'd be no point.

1KPerDay: Thanks for the idea, I'm low on balls atm. Maybe a small 5 grain charge? :p

Now if you were one of them thar excaped convicts from the old prison wearin one of those striped uniforms it would almost be a conceled carry...lol

Well.....first off, everyone has an opinion. Everyone has a right to express it as well. While in the gunsmith business for many years, I have done some strange mods at the customer's request. This type was never among them....That said, as mentioned with the paint business on some of the more current firearms out there it is a real possibility for some weapons we use here. ( Note: I never painted a gun in my life! I used bluing tanks or old school browning ) .....

But I used to have many a S&W DA revolver done up with Nickle and Gold plating for many fellow officers back in the 70's and early 80's as that was a "trend" at the time in North Tx law enforcement. Never had one of mine done so as I thought it gawdy. But I've seen some of these hugmongus monster cannons with cylinders being painted in so many striped camo colors it makes my head spin now a days!

Pyro was just thinking way, way, way, out of the box here! If its fun for him, so what? Shucks, two toned finishes are nothing new anyway. Think of it like bikini lines on a revolver! :)

Unfortunately there are those that mock the lowly "Fake Navy". But I guess if you're gonna butcher (Pyro's word) a Navy at least you didn't do it to an expensive one.

:what:

The topic title is quite apt.

I don't care much for this gun (as you can see), it's a cheap Cabelas black powder with no historical value.

However, it's your gun to do with as you please, and keeping the above in mind, you are welcome to perform such modifications as you wish.

I might add to it when the mood hits me.

What did you have in mind? I'm almost afraid to ask :neener:

Maybe a checkered pattern across the entire barrel or a spiral pattern like on the cylinder. It's cheap super-blue so a quick trip in some bleach and the metal is shiny white again.

We've been decorating our weapons since we crawled out of the cave. It's a personal taste thing. Way to go, keeping up a fine tradition.

At least it wasn't a Remington or Ruger.

Now you just need to put some "mudflap babe" inlays in the grips.
That, and some engine turn/damascening on the unblued parts and the frame.

You know, I think it is great to have broken the mold on handgun decoration. The brass framed navies are almost considered disposable guns (as in disposable writing pens). Use it, impress folks (I am!) and have fun with life. I think it's cool. I might consider a similar subversive act myself with my brasser 44 "navy".
-------- (5 minute pause)

Whoa! Just reviewed the postings and the picture has been pulled. What's this? Censoring gun porn? I wanted to take another look at the creature. Dang.

Hellgate: I deleted it cleaning out my imageshack account (oops)....I need to post a more recent one with the little addition I put on it anyways, maybe with a nice holster.
It'll be posted in my OP and in a response.

For your next project, go pin stripes and flames....now that would be kool !!!

Cheap guns kinda fascinate me, not sure why but i like them.

I can tell you why. It's because you are 17 years old and can't afford more expensive guns right now. Not that it is a bad thing. When I was your age, I couldn't either! ;)

I can't see the original photo. From some of the comments, I am not sure I want to but... waiting for the new and improved butchery.

Enjoy while it lasts, the blueing around the barrel wedge is rubbing off.
