The email finally arrive::):):)

Dear CMP Customer
Order# 179xxx which was placed on 12/19/07 has been shipped

This order shipped through FedEx Priority Overnight. The tracking number is 9578071xxxxxxx.

The following are the contents of this shipment:
Qty Item-No Item-Description
1 RM1SAS Rifle, M1 Garand, Service
Grade, Springfield

My first Garand. I'm counting the hours till the FedEx guy shows up on Monday...its gonna be a long weekend.

Cool! Congrats! Post some pics when it gets in. Did you order some of the HXP? CMP has got 192 round spam cans of M2 ball w/ the ammo on clips in bandoleers for $58.95 shipped ...

I just got mine in on Feb 4. Its an HRA service grade. Haven't had a chance to get out to the range yet (the only one near by is up on a mountain at the end of a dirt road & the weather has not been cooperating).

Nick

I ordered 2 cans of ammo...it came in about a week after the order was placed.

What sucks is that I go in for neck surgery on Wednesday. It will be 4 - 6 weeks before I will be able to go to the range. Looks like there will be lots of time of cleaning and stock refinishing

NAK-thought I was the only person like that (can't order my gun until Monday, and several years older.

Good luck with the surgery.
Can somebody help you at the range, or backwoods, as you carefully shoot it from the hip or from behind a shelf etc?

NAK: It is good to know that I'm not the only person like that (several years older, and can't order my first Mosin Nagant {my first powerful combat rifle}/"lower budget 'substitute' for a Mauser 98" until the "store" opens on Monday! :()

Good luck with the surgery.

Don't suppose that somebody can help you hold the gun at the range (or backwoods) as you shoot it from the chest or hip, or sit/stand behind a shelf?

Ahhh, I well remember waiting on that first service grade M1 Garand. I probably called home from work at least a dozen times that day to see if it had arrived yet. I also left STRICT orders with my teenage sons to NOT open the long, brown boxes once they arrived. Man, what a long day, but well worth the wait. It was actually two rifles with that first order...an M1 service grade and a M1903 with a "C" style stock. They were both all I had hoped they would be and I still enjoy handling them as much as I did that first day several years ago.

Congrats on your decision to take ownership of one of these fine rifles...a decision I know you will never regret. Now you'll have to start looking for a nice M1 bayonet, butt stock cleaning kit, M1 cartridge belt, and on and on.
Good luck and happy shooting,

azimuth

That's some pretty bad timing.. Your rifle arrives on the day all the ranges are closed (atleast around here), which is conveniently the day after the best day to go shooting and just before the most crowded day.

Congratz, gonna have to post pics... I got mine just before Thanksgiving this last year. They sent it out on a Friday also. I remember calling my wife three or four times that morning to see if it had come. Then when I went to lunch I checked my cell and she texted me that it was there. I wanted to leave work early but that doesn't happen when you work grocery and it is the three days before Thanksgiving.

I am waiting on my first M1 garand also...

it is a CMP gun with papers, and cmp box..bought through a guy who never fired it after getting it from them... its a 5.8xx-xxx Springfield with TE= 2 MW= <1 !!! on the ORIGINAL BARREL...

in the pics I can still see plenty of Cosmoline on it... I cant wait to start cleaning this thing up... gonna have to be real careful about what i do to it though as I am a greenie... it has the circle P and the DOD cartouche on the stock so, i doubt if i will throw it in the dishwasher!

please guys, i am new to this forum as well as to owning an M1, although i have read about them for years... please direct me to some of the better threads I should read b4 working on this thing...

I know what you mean about waiting for xmas and calling home...

I have bugged the poor guy selling it to me to death... until i hold it i just refuse to believe that it is for real after waiting 2 years to get my hands on one!

i have a feeling i have found a new hobby/passion...

Stopped by wally word today and picked up a can of boiled linseed oil, 4 cans of brake cleaner, a box of nitrile gloves, and some several different grits of emery paper.

Tomorrow I'll pick up some Lubriplate, Minwax Antique Furniture Refinisher, and some stripping pads.

There is not chance of getting to the range before my surgery, but by the time I get released to shoot again, it will be ready to go!

The one I got was a service grade Springfield. The stock didn't need to be refinished, but it does have the character marks of being a 52 year old rifle. Enjoy

well... I am still waiting on my 5.8xx-xxx Springfield...

so yesterday i bought a great book:

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE M1 GARAND AND THE M1 CARBINE

by Bruce N. Canfield...

Hardback... 2nd edition revised...

I wanna know what is the BIBLE on these M1 Garands????
