Here it is. I've been drooling over it for the last 10 days, waiting to take it home, and the day finally came! Oh yeah, it's a 686-6 4"

Ooooh, nice; that one be on my short list, too.

Aren't you in CA? Where did you get it?

Stupid Question alert: I get the speedloaders, but what are those straight things that are holding the cartridges, and what are they for?

Thanks,

Sawdust

I bought the gun off Gunbroker.com, because in the end, I ended up saving around 100$, compared to every retail gun store in my area, even with the FFL fees. Being in California, the only way I could get one sent here though, was that it had to be a 686-6, with the internal lock, as that's the only one on the Gun Roster. It's brand new, never fired (except for that factory round they put thru it).

I got the speed strips at Midwayusa.com. Specifically HERE

To clarify for Sawdust:

The strips are used to load the revolver. You load in 2 at a time, and "tear" off the strip, leaving those 2 in the chamber, then, you do it for 2 more, and then 2 more. They are much faster than single loading, but hardly hold a candle to actual speedloaders... At least in my hands.

Hey Sawdust, where in Ventura County do you live? I grew up in Ojai, and just recently moved to Santa Barbara.

But why are there only five rounds in the speed strips? And why do you have 3 snap caps mixed in with live ammo in one speedloader.

I was waiting for someone to notice that.

The 5 rounds in the speed strip is because it seems to make it quite a bit easier to load with only 5 rounds. You get that extra grip at the bottom.

Why the snap caps? Cause I didn't have enough ammo! I had just bought a box of Golden Sabers, with 25 in the box, and as you can see, it takes more than 25 to fill up everything I had there. I just used the snap caps to fill up the speedloader. I was kind of trying to hide them, but it didnt work to well.

Thanks for the speed strip explanation.

Glad to hear you finally have the 686 in your possession. Have you had a chance to shoot it yet? I will be at the range again tomorrow morning with my 686-4. If I had a camera we could do a pic compare. I really like the way the new Ajax rosewood grips look and feel.

Doug: No chance to shoot it yet. My membership to the local gun club will only be active on June 8th. There is one place out here to shoot, but my car can't make it out there. I need a 4X4. The other place to shoot is pretty cool, but yesterday, when we went out there, there were a bunch of rednecks (no offense to anyone here...) throwing beer cans on the ground (after chugging them of course) and then running around shooting at them. I didn't really feel like being around a bunch of morons with guns.

We're gonna go out there again today. Hopefully no one will be there. At least not rowdy drunks with mullets...:p

If only 100 of those "damned rebels" had those guns & speedloaders at Breed's Hill (mistakenly called Bunker Hill), we'd win instead. ;)

I got to shoot it today! Went out to the range, and no drunken hillbillys. I shot off 50 rounds of 357 158 grn. PMC's. It was FUN!. I shot off a couple of .38+p Remington Golden sabers, just to see what they were like. Great gun. The recoil is great, very manageable and fun. No targets today, so I don't know how well the sights are adjusted.

I like this gun a lot though! :D :D :D

What!!?? All those cans laying around and you couldn't find a "target" to shoot at??:what:
Very nice looking revo there.I gotta get me a 'Smith, been too long without one.

Well, of course there were "targets" but no "TARGETS". The sights seem to be adjusted pretty well, but I'm not sure exactly how they are adjusted. Overall they seem to be okay.

I just got back from shooting again today. I shot a gallon plastic juice bottle, filled with water, and it blew in HALF! I really wasn't expecting that. It was fun.

Then, every crazy bastard and their mother showed up, and it turned into a horrible irresponsible free-for-all. So we left.

Till next time...

I thought he was going to say because I'm teaching my wife/girlfriend to shoot and wanted to see if she's flinching :)

--wally.

Haha... If she only had a flinch. I don't think she really wants to shoot it at all! I'll talk her into it one of these days. Today at the range, I was with a friend and his girlfriend. She had never shot before. She started with my 686, loaded with .38's, and said it was okay.

Then she shot my friends .45 1911, and didn't like it at all. It was funny. She seems to be into it overall though, and willing to learn and get used to it.

I'll drag my girlfriend out with me some time though. :D
