"The Para-Blackwater Gun Bloggers weekend will be August 22-24, 2008."

Dang, a humid August weekend in the North Carolina tidewater. That'll be fun, the skeeters will be full grown by then.

Just kidding. Congrats.

John

WOW! That is pretty cool. I don't hate you, but damn am I jealous right now. Have fun (how could you not?!?), and be safe.

No your not Just kidding Skeeters here often damage cars and people confuse them with trukeys all the time. Bring a supply of blood with you other wise you will get light headed from the blood loss! And an air conditioner wont hurt anything either.

Don't accept any Kool-Aid anytime soon, especially if someone calls it punch blend. :D

Congratulations! What an experience!

Mr. Don Gwinn,

My most heartfelt congratulations in being invited to Blackwater.
This invitation could not go to a nicer person than Don Gwinn, a father, a husband, and mentor to many.

A person that gives tirelessly of himself. . One whom lives responsible firearm ownership. One as THR Staff, and never complains about the thankless job being Staff can be.

I wish you a safe trip and look forward to hearing your report and review upon your return.

Sincerely,

Steve

I won a $5.00 Bass Pro gift card this weekend. Doesn't really compare does it? Dang...:banghead:

Sounds like fun.

Don, congratulations. Have a great time.

I've been to Southern Virginia at all times of the year (my uncle and his family used to live in Norfolk and then Suffolk) and I've recently been to Minnesota. Minnesota mosquitoes beat out Southern mosquitoes (even in the swamps) by a landslide.

Well ok but we have more of them!

Eric, in MN they are even out during the daytime. It is a different world (I've heard that mosquitoes are the MN state bird :D ). However, that doesn't change anything you said. Southern VA and south has some really nasty mosquitoes. Huge, swarms like you've never seen (unless you are from someplace like Minnesota)- you almost feel like you've just given blood if you go outside at night (especially if you are near the swamps). Yup, Southern VA mosquitoes are pretty bad (one of the things that makes me happy to be in MD- no Northern or Southern mosquito problems to deal with, ours are quite mild in comparison, if only we could say that about the bloodsuckers in Annapolis who like to raise our taxes).

Last time I was in an Agricultural Mid-South area Rice field, about a week before draining the fields for harvest, I overheard a couple of 'skeeters talking...

"Should we eat him here, or take him with us back home?"

Le's eat him here...If we take him back home, the big'uns will just take him away from us..."

I just picked up a propane-powered mosquito fogger today, and it did wonders for our backyard. Might have to take it with me. But can you imagine what airport security will think of it?
