I was looking through my gun safe, and ran across an old gem. I know...sucks to have a lot of guns, and you "forget" about a few of them. This one is a real lady.
It is a pinned-non-recessed Smith & Wesson Model 65, 4" revolver. I bought it about 16 years ago from a gun shop in Tucson...it wasa BEAT UP...I mean, it looked like hell. It was marked BOSTON PD on the frame, and wore the old skinny Magna stocks...and they looked sad, sorry and abused. A lot of Boston winters had left them dull, and cracked.
The good news is it locked up tight as a vault, and the trigger was, typically Smith & Wesson smooth. The best news was it was only $137.00!
I bought it, and a set of Hogue pao ferro grips. I installed the grips, took it and 3 boxes of reloaded .357's to the range, and MAN...it shot 1" high at 15 yards, and almost vertically centered!
So, I took it home, and mounted it in the vise, and took off the hammer spur. Then went a step further, and polished all the scratches off, until it shined like an ultimate stainless Python.
I made an Askins style concealment holster for it, and carried it on duty for 2 years until we transistioned to Glocks, and revolvers were no longer allowed.
It still looks and shoots like a lady....I am going to retire the 1911 for a while and carry the Smith. Like old times!
