Just got a Ruger lc9s. Anyone have experience shooting self defense ammo thru them. I usually run 124 gold dots in my 9mm auto loaders.

Our two "s" types (and the one LC9) have all functioned fine with everything I've tried. Each was tested with 124 grain Gold Dot and Federal HST, but mostly they've fired 100, 115 and 124 grain plated (90%) and jacketed (10%) rounds.

Ours have not been picky at all; choose your favorite premium round for business and any decent range fodder for pleasure. +p+ should be avoided; +P is fine but a constant diet of higher pressure ammunition will as is oft stated, accelerate wear. Follow Ruger's guidance on this.

Since I had been using Speer Gold Dots in my previous carry gun, it's the only hollow point I've tested in my LC9s. Functions perfectly.

Carry rounds....

I just ordered a box of Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P JHP short barrel format for my new Shield no thumb safety 9x19mm.
I think it's the best defense/CCW 9mm load for sub compact & short barrel 9mm pistols. Online videos and T&Es all give the Speer Gold Dots high marks. :D

The Winchester PDX1 124gr +P and Hornady Critical Duty +P are also great but the Gold Dots have a slight edge.
I may carry spare magazines for the Shield with Winchester 9mmNATO 124gr FMJ.
Feeding-cycles & good marksmanship may be needed by any extra magazines in a extended lethal force event(although that's highly unlikely).
