Today was Father's day, and my dad had to be in Kansas for the day so I went and visited my Grandpa who isn't doing to well. I noticed a NEF single 20 laying against the corner when I walked in. It looked just like my first gun that I had bought off my Grandpa when I was younger (no one in my family gets stuff unless you earn it). Long story short a family uproar ended up with me coming home from school one day and finding 80 bucks laying on my bed and the shotgun gone. I was heartbroken.

A few years later my little brother died and it brought the family back together. I asked my Grandpa about the single 20 cause it was my first gun. He had sold it to pay the bills one month. Again, heartbroken about losing forever my FIRST gun. When he had sold it off the guy took the gun and gave it to his kid as a Christmas gift. Not too long ago my Grandpa bumped into the kid and traded him a tv for the single shot. Today, my grandpa GAVE me the shotgun, that don't really happen in my family you either buy it or work for it (including gifts). He said this as he handed me the gun "Curtis, you are the best grand child I have, and you have earned this with gun cause you are an outstanding young man". He said it with tears in his eyes. I took it with tears in mine.

My Grandpa doesn't have too much longer in this world, and wanted to give me something that I will forever cherish as a gift from his heart. So I have my first gun back, and a loving memory to add with it.

If you read this far, I thank you for your time.
Trying to get a pic up of the shotgun

You probably learned the value of hard work at a younger age than I did. I hope you get to spend as much time with your Grandfather as you can; Lord knows I miss mine.
And I got 2 words for you: gun safe ;)

Not sure how old you are, or if you have kids; this may be hard to believe but I'm sure it meant more to him to be able to give you the gun than for you to receive it. That’s what dads and granddads live for. If you ever have the chance to give it to your own son you will understand.

I shot my .22lr Sears and Roebuck tube feed semi-auto on Saturday. Brought back memories, it was the "Christmas Story" gun my dad gave me when I was 8 yrs old (1968). The gun will never leave my ownership, unless, god willing I get a grandson.

Amazing what these things mean.
