I had a 3.5" model 27-2 on laway for the past 3 months. I finally paid it off today. :). Can anybody tell me when it was made. The serial number is N3259XX. Also I do not know whether or not to shoot it. I cannot tell wheter or not it has been shot, OR does that matter since the cylinder has been rotated (has a very light line). I got it for 400$. I could not really afford it but at that price I had to get it. Here are some picts

1975-77. These (3.5 27s) are bringing $600+ now so you did very good on price. Why wouldn't you want to shoot it? Did you buy art or a gun? The 27 is about as good as a revolver gets and is my personal favorite. I have six right now and have had as many as eight at one time.

BTW- I have never understood the target options on the short barrel model but I have one that came equiped just like yours. I changed the grips for Magnas and swapped in a smooth combat trigger because it feels better to me in DA shooting.

Shoot it. You're not going to hurt it, unless you put hundreds of heavy loads through it. And I dare say you'll give up on those long before the revolver does.

Shoot it, shoot it, shoot it!

The dude that helped me at the gun shop last night had a great point. He said, "no gun you can buy today is going to make you rich twenty years from now."

Beautiful gun!

I also aquired one recently.

To say that they don't make 'em like they used to is an understatement.

N frame model 27-2

I purchased one recently that is nickel plated with a 5 inch barrel. I shoot mine when I can. I especially enjoy shooting it with .38spl ammo. No recoil at all. Congradulations on a fine purchase.

To find that revolver for $550 would be a treat. At $400 you'll smile every time you pick it up for years to come. I know I would.

Hi ssteven1,

That is a beautiful gun you got and after looking for a Model 27-2 myself, it is a very good price. Using it or not is your choice, you'll make a few hundred dollars over the price you paid if you shoot it or not. Just keep it in nice shape, clean well after shooting, and use a silicone cloth to wipe it down and it'll look as new as the day you bought it. That way you can shoot it and have no regrets.

I think you did just fine - and the cost and 3 month wait were well worth it IMO.

This period of the M27's is I think about ideal ... mine shown below (No aploagies for posting it - quite often!)- a 5" M27-2 ... was as far as I could find out the last almost of the 5" versions ... late 76', early '77.

I got this one, in a box ... for exact same price $400 ... it was to replace one I had back in the 80's and I don't think it was too bad a deal either. It is on my ''definitely won't sell' list! Treasure that one - but shoot it too!
