I got my new CCW permit

A store belt might work for lighterweight guns (PPKs and such) but a full-sized 1911 needs something awful sturdy. The cops wear huge belts for a reason - it's the only way to hold up the weight of the (full-sized) handgun, spare ammo, cuffs, and all that other gear.

Guys, on tuesday I got my CCW's permit. Yesterday I carried my Glock 26 all day long and after an hour I didn't even feel it in my back. Today I carried my 1911 full size for about 6 hours. What a difference!!!!!! I really don't know how people carry it every day Its so heavy and so long. It kept pulling my pants down haha.

I just got mine back today. I got attacked by a dog in my yard a while back, very long story, but I shot the thing to keep from getting too bit up. I think I coulda killed it without shooting it by choking it, but it was attacking my cats and moving around and then jumped on me. Anyway, they filed "animal cruelty" on me. I fought it, it got dismissed, I got my permit back. Next time, I guess I'll let the danged dog tear me up. If I survive, I can sue the crap out of the dog's owner, if there is one. The whole moral is, don't use the thing unless you absolutely have to. That was a friggin' dog! Oh, well, I reckon if I had to shoot a human, though, they wouldn't have even filed on me. such are the times we live in.

Yeah, I was all gung ho when I got my permit to carry a 1911 or a .357 revolver or something big. Seems like most that are just citizens like me eventually downsize to pocket guns. ROFL! IWB every day is a royal PITA. It ain't TOO bad with a G26 sized gun or my SP101, but I find my little Kel Tec P11 in a pocket is plenty of gun and only 14 ounces unloaded, carries in a pocket such that you don't even realize it's there unless you think about it. I'm even wanting to get a new Ruger .380 LCP now, even smaller, but I think the P11 is MY perfect carry, frankly.

But, I find you can't have too may carry options if you like to carry 24/7. When they temporarily took my P11, I told 'em, "That's okay, I have 19 more to fall back on." ROFL! Many are biger guns, but I have more'n one pocket gun and want more. :D

Like everyone else has said.. you need a good belt and my suggestion is to grab an Uncle Mike's Instructor belt. It's < $30 from Midway and it has a poly insert to keep it stiff. If you're not in a situation where you need a nice looking leather belt, it's probably the most cost effective belt out there. The poly insert keeps the gun from rolling outward on you (a problem I've had on cheap belts) and the buckle + velcro keeps the belt from loosening up over time. I never have to pull up my pants when I'm wearing this belt. I have used it with a FS 1911 and the difference between this belt and my old cheapo one was night and day.

The only downside to this belt is the size of it. Some pants don't have belt loops that are large enough. I like wearing Dickies double knee work pants and the belt barely fits through the loops.

After we relocated we applied for our Mississippi permits. It says allow 120 days. It was right at 120 days before we got ours.We kept and will keep our Florida pemits as non resident.

What is the deal about carrying a weapon in Walmart?

A while back, a poster, started a thread pointing out that a lot of people new to carrying seem to mention how they go to Walmart feelin apprehensive of blowing concealment...

They are relieved and suprised when no one notices... It has become somewhat of a little slice oh humor here..

Welcome to the Highroad BTW sph...

Read up on ARTS GRAMMAW when you have sometime too...

May I suggest a Fobus paddle holster? As long as you're not wearing saggy pants, it works great and I have yet to have it pull down on my pants. I know it's there, but it's not digging into me or threatening to jump out like when I carry IWB. I have one for a 1911 and it seems to carry it relatively high; I can wear a polo shirt untucked and have the slide completely covered (although I shouldn't reach for things on high shelves).

Just a thought, and welcome!

Sorry for all of you, who have to wait for your CC...I guess Alabama is more trusting than most (or stupid, you can decide) My CC took me all of about 5 min to get. I walked in to the Sheriff's station, filled out my paper work, gave her my finger prints, handed the officer my money, asked if I needed to come back in a week or so, she said unless your in a super hurry, I can have it to you in a few minutes...5 min later, I was walking out with it...

As far as walmart goes...I wouldn't doubt if the workers at some of our stores around here, weren't carrying!

Will some one please explain IWB to me. I see it used often, and I take it to mean inside the belt. In Georgia for a CCP when you first apply the sheriff does a background check on you. the first time it takes a bout a week. To renew that same day. You get a temporary permit until your license arrives.
