whats stopping people from making flash hiders for handguns? I hear about people complaining that a huge flash from a ported, or high power gun at night messes things up, would that help with such problems?

Nothing. I've shot VonFatman's threaded HK Tactical with a vortex flash hider on it. It was mid-day so I couldn't tell a difference in flash level but it certainly didn't hurt anything.

The only down-side is added gun length and muzzle weight without any improvement in velocity, although it can improve accuracy by stabilizing the turbulence around the bullet as it leaves the barrel. At normal pistol ranges this probably isn't noticeable and the same effect would be created by chambered compensator.

I have one for my HK Tac also.

For me the biggest advantage was reducing muzzle flip. I did not notice any change in accuracy. Flash from a long barrel .45 is not that big anyway.

It certainly gets a lot of strange looks when I bring it to a range.

I have seen Glock aftermarket barrels with threads to match a flash hider or comp on them. So, they are out there, but there doesn't seem to be a large market.
