So I decided to pick up an HK-P7 today, a gun I've been lusting after for years now. It came with the original matching case, manual, cleaning brush and it is in immaculate condition. Date on the side indicates Oct. 1985 as it's production year and it's marked "NDS" and next to that "BWB 315". The magazine is date coded (IF) 1985 as well. Not sure if it's a reblue, there's no plum color to the slide, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was reblued based on the fact that the gun looks factory new.

After I bought the gun I put 50 rounds through it at the range and was most impressed! The gun is incredibly accurate and comfortable to shoot, I walked out of the range completely satisfied with my purchase. It wasn't cheap, $720+tax but it's a gun I've wanted for a long time and now I have one.

Here are some pics....

Curious markings on your pistol... or lack thereof.

I don't see the importer mark on the left side of the frame. The recent Saxony pistols, denoted by the Nds stamp were mostly brought in by HK themselves and are marked Trussville or Columbus. I don't see anything marked. PW Arms also imported a batch of P7s.

The "BWB 315" is a federal acceptance stamp usually seen on pistols sent to military units. These are denoted by a stamp showing the unit, such as BMI or Bw. The Nds is not a military unit, but rather a police agency, usually accompanied only by the proof mark and usually, (but not always), the date.

Curious...?

Nice looking gun, no doubt there. That's not a bad price either. The comparable quality PW Arms imports have been selling upwards of $800.

There is an import mark on the left side of the frame, it just didn't show up very well in the picture. It's an HKI Trussville import.

Just curious.

On the sticker on the side of the box it says "Custom 41/40 Cote"

What does that mean? I tried researching it and came up emptied handed.

Also is there a way to tell what grade it is? The guy at the shop said it was a grade A but I don't know if he was just saying that to sweeten the deal or not.

The Custom 41/40 Cote sticker has been seen on the P7s from CDNN that have been refinished either with a silver color or a dark blue.

As to the grade, there should be another sticker showing the grade. I suspect it has been removed, maybe by the refinisher?

None that I know of other than the original sticker. One key part to examine is the piston. Does it look clean and shiny or is there a slight carbon build up between the rings.

That's a great looking P7! Enjoy it. I may join the club today myself. A local dealer had 5 to choose from and i'm going to check them out.

I like the finish. Do you know what it is? My P7 PSP may get a Robar eventually, but I'd rather it look more original.

Congrats!! I really like mine. If I could only keep one of my guns, I think it would be my P7.

I didn't check it prior to buying it. Right after I bought it I put 50 rounds of PMC 9mm through it and then brought it home and cleaned it. When I cleaned it I don't remember the piston being extremely dirty, I just wiped it down with a cleaning cloth and this is how it looks. Not sure what to judge by this since I don't really know a grade C from a grade B or A piston.

That piston is in very good shape. After some use, the first two or three rings will accumulate some carbon build up and become darker. That piston may even have been replaced before you bought it.

Don't forget: use nothing abrasive on the piston. Rags, patches, or soft brushes with cleaner are sufficient. You do want to clean the cylinder very well. Very lightly oil the piston.

That baby looks brand new!! Great price for a Grade A P7, you did very well. That Cote finish looks extremely close to the original, and I like it much better than the "plum" slides. The "grades" are normally based on the condition of the internals and as USP9 mentioned, yours looks excellent. Congrats on a great pickup!

(You understand that you have to get another one now, so one can cool off while you shoot the other one! :neener:)

I have a grade c Nds marked P7
It has a yellow dot on the box and a couple other stickers.

You got a good pistol for a good price, the last time I saw CDNN offering the black refinished guns they were something like $699 their price.

I had wanted a P7 since they first came out back when I was in high school. When the German police trade in pistols flooded the market (led by CDNN), I had to have an A-Grade. The gun was almost perfect except for the slightest traces of edge wear. Mechanically it was perfect.

The HK P7 feels wonderfully ergonomic in my hands and points very naturally. I still think the squeeze cocking front grip is an amazing concept.

I shot my P7 in competition but I must say it doesn't just get hot, it gets scorchingly unbelievably hot! 50 rounds is okay. Another 50 on top of that and the gun is almost too hot at the top of the trigger guard area to even hold.

I actually put on two bandaids, overlapping where my trigger finger touches the frame inside the trigger guard before I start shooting.

When I've fired my third match (50, 50, and 50 rounds), the gun can literally burn your skin horribly.

Other than that, the gun is great!

Gun is so ugly it's a thing of beauty. I need one. Complete function over form. Anybody have any tips on weeding out a well taken care of one from an abused one? I want one SOOOO bad.

I haven't seen a really bad one in any of the grades.
The Germans tend to take excellent care of issue weapons and the ones that come through H&K-USA are checked out here before being released for sale.

The question is how much finish wear are you willing to live with?

I have a Grade C P7, the slide is plum colored and and displays a bit of wear, the frame and internals including the barrel bore are in excellent shape and most if not all the springs appear to have been replaced as has the gas piston.
The one magazine that came with the gun appears used but not abused, no dings, scratches, buggered up follower or weak spring.
The grips and cocking mechanism appear used but again no abuse, cracks, gouges, scrapes, or abrasive wear.
I bought five brand new magazines just the same.

While it is heavy and of low magazine capacity, I like my P7.

Got one last year as a birthday gift - great gun, lots of fun to shoot, handles my plated reloads very nicely. Was lucky in that mine (PSP) came with 4 magazines. M8 mags are a little easier to find
