It's a Mosin 91/30, with all matching numbers. Nothing came with it, except the cleaning rod.The bore and barrel look to be in great condition. There's no pitting that I could see, and the barrel looks pretty dirty, but shiny. I paid $100 for it? Did I do good? Bad? Terrible?

Right around "normal" pricewise. If I am not mistaken, you can buy one for around 80 online, but then you have ffl fees and the disadvantage of not being able to preview the firearm. If you wish, there are several places to buy the factory accessories. Enjoy and don't forget to post pics!

I wouldn't worry about the accessories. You'll just end up throwing them in a box somewhere and never using them again, except for the firing pin protrusion tool. That is handy to have when disassembling and reassembling, but you can pick one up for $5-10 online.

Yeah, thats about right lately.
Surplus ammo is going up in price fairly fast so I'd suggest buying a bulk amount soon. I just bought three months back and its already up ten percent since then:eek:

$100 is a pretty good price in a gun shop nowadays.

Welcome! We will see how bad Mosinitis affects you...

Tom

BTW, hex or round receiver? Date?

You can...AIM used to have them for that price and J&G still does, I'd still rather get one at a gun shop though. For $80 online, sight unseen, in an old commie milsurp you've got a good chance of being handed a beater with a bore that looks like a mile of bad road.

Thats a good deal for a non ffl holder. Most of the mosins around here are 125 and up.

Anybody about an hour northeast of Dallas visiting Caddo Mills on I-30 will probably find a good selection to choose from at
"The Ammo Depot".

Three weeks ago, in addition to at least seventeen-twenty 91/30s, there was a 91/59 and a Finn.

It's a round receiver. I can't for the life of me remember the date. I'll be picking it up tomorrow or Monday and I'll put pics up right away.

About the accessories....the oil can is 'cute' according to my wife, the string cleaner is useless. Who are you gonna' poke with the silly bayonet?

But the leather double ammo carrier holds EIGHT loaded officer sized magazines (56 rounds) for my Colt CCO. I toss it behind the seat of the car when I go out with the Colt or with my Kimber Custom Carry (series 1)

Without its bayonet, the Mosin loses its title of Ultimate War Pike! :D Really though, the only accessory I find useful is the firing pin protrusion tool.

I just bought a M44 today to compliment my 91/30. With the attached bayonet it serves less useful as a tent stake, but more than compensates in its weeny roasting ability :D

Update on my Mosin!

I picked it up today, and got a better look at it. First thing I did was check the head space. It came out all good, so I stripped it. The muzzle looks like it's been counter-sunk. All numbers match, including the butt plate. The metal is all in okay-good shape. There's no pitting in the barrel or chamber. The rifling is in good condition. There's a little bit of pitting on the underside of the receiver where it meets the barrel, but it's very clean. The stock is in nice shape, and there are no big gouges in it, the occasional ding and scratch seem to be about it. I can't figure out what year it was manufactured though. From what I can tell from 7.62x54r.net, it looks like it's an Izhevsk post-1938 Soviet. The serial number is 4757. Does anybody know what year it could be from? Here's pics!

Looks like the year got scrubbed when barrel shank and receiver were buffed, but looking at receiver I would guess it's a 42 or 43 Izhevsk. Is there a marking on the underside of the tang?

were sorry doc, its too late for this one. HE HAS MOSINITIS!!!

you probably will get it, I did. I now have two with maybe 4 more on the way. its the same with sks.

6 mosins? Really?
Heh.. Yeah.. All too easy.. Let's see.. Ya got's the 91/30, the three shorties M38, M44 and the chopped 91/59 just to start, all usually at affordable prices. Then you get the hankerin' for the 91/30 with scope because you just saw Enemy at The Gates and want to shoot like Vassili. Then you realize your original 91/30 doesn't have the pig sticker so instead of just getting the bayonet, you get the whole kit-n-caboodle cause it's a matched set.. etc.. etc.. etc.. It is a terrible affliction. :)

And besides, they are totally fun to shoot..

Yeah.. The wife looks at me funny when I go.. oooo.. They have a Mosin on sale at...

If it has a really good bore, no matter how nice the wood, you did very well.
I won't ever again order a MN online, from a popular distributor or elsewhere.

The objective should be much more than laminated wood in a MN 44 etc. After a while, the best looks might not matter, if your groups at 50 yards are 6-8" with Bulgarian HB.
