I have a M&P .40 that is just begging for a nice little laser sight. I dont want to buy Crimson Trace grips (well, I do but my paycheck doesn't want me to buy them). What I am looking for is something that will mount on my weaver rail, can be put on or taken off with just a few screws and had the power switch ON the light itself. I am trying to avoid the use of a pressure sensitive wire or other switch I just want a button on the laser. Also I dont need it to be super amazing just handle the recoil of .40s&w.

Anybody know if such a thing exists? If so can I buy it online?

I have a Streamlight TLR-2 mounted on my M&P40 right now. It is my main home defense handgun.

It has a rocker switch that can be actuated by your trigger finger (while it is correctly outside the trigger guard). The rocker switch rotates one direction for temporary on, or the opposite direction for permanent on.

You can run it in three modes:

  • Laser only
  • Light only
  • Laser/light

It is very handy and I wouldn't trade it for anything, including one of the new Crimson Trace inserts (even though I may purchase a CT for my M&P9.)

The big downside is that the TLR-2 is just about as expensive as the CT grip, so this recommendation may not help you out much.

You can also look at the Lasermax rail-mounted unit - LMS-UNI.

An ebay price check on it yields a result of about $130. I have experience with lasermax (have one in my G22), but I don't have any experience with the rail-mounted unit.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
