I saw a S&W auto that I liked. This is what became the 5906 I believe. What can you tell me about the S&W 659 in 9MM?

I can't say personally as I have had no experience with them, but I do have several friends who can't mention one without using words unfit for virgin ears. Other posters probably can give you a better qualified opinion.
The 3rd generation pistols were generally thought of as much better pistols.

I can't address issues related to the S&W 659; but
I had a nickel model 459 that performed really well.
I haven't seen either in recent years; or since the
introduction of Glock's, H&K's, and SIG's.

For 9m/m Smith self-loader's, I have always liked
the old original, single stack model 39-2 better than
any of the other's. Just my thought's and opinion.

I like it! Should I?

Some like it hot..
Some like it cold..
Some like it in the pot 9 days old.. :D

If it fits your hand and is reliable and accurate enough for you, I can't see any reason not to.

At the same time I highly suggest you check it out prior to purchasing. My dad purchased one not long ago at around the $250 range. So far it's been pretty reliable.

Even fat, ugly, stupid men and women can find a mate and get married, so there's probably a gun out there for you. This could be it:D . I wouldn't consider a S&W auto unless it was free (so I could sell it to finance something else). S&W hasn't gotten autos right in 40 years. If you ever buy a 1911 or clone, you'll rue the day you bought this piece.

If the grip fits you & you shoot the gun well, go for it! I don't fit the S&W grips that well so I wouldn't buy one, but I know a few S&W semi auto owners that really like their pistols.

For S & W autos, I would opt for the third generation. I've got a 6906, and it's a great pistol. Decent DA trigger (although a bit heavy), accurate, VERY reliable, and cheap. Good used ones can be had for less than $300. Add Hogue grips, well worth the money.

As with WarDog, I have the third generation 6906 Smith & Wesson and my experience mirrors his. No problems or issues of any kind. Seems the third generation are a different breed according to most.

The 659 has served me well for over two decades and is a very good gun. The 5906 is even better ...
