God this great ! Any chance you could list the weights and differences shooting between the Kahr PM45 and Taurus PT145 , I a big fella 6'8" 265 , But really want a smaller carry .45 , I never really noticed that Kahr 45 before and now Im intrigued , I havent been much of a Taurus fan (if you ever buy one and its gos way wrong and dealing with those pricks ,sets the tone) , anyhway , I like the looks of both of these , the pictures with the Glock are truely amazing , if concealed carry is the issue , the Glock gets beat hands down by both of these! Thanks!

Glock 36. I'm about your size give or take and that's what I carry. If you can find one in OD snag it up quick. They're great little guns and not as thick as the 30. Mine has been 100% reliable. I did add a pearce plus zero extension.

Personally I'd say go with a 1911, I'm a fairly small guy and have no issues whatsoever carrying a .45 1911, but since you don't want an SAO pistol, my vote would go to either the HK 45C or the USP 45C.

JustsayMo:

The only negatives are the trigger is less good than Glocks I've owned but I do shoot the M&P 45C better than I did the Glocks. The more repetitions I get with it the less of an issue the trigger becomes.

Check out Apex Tactical's trigger kits. The product cleans up the M&P trigger VERY nicely. There are videos on how to install it.

RE: Ruger recalls

Hehe...I'm just messing with them. Ruger has had too many recalls in the past few years. I think the 345 was a very reliable gun. A friend had one for awhile; it worked well for him.

+2 on the Glock 36...

Light, slender , powerful , highly reliable , and easily concealable. An ideal CCW in 45 ACP.

Oh, I get you're just messing with them, all the makers/owners listed for that matter. It is a spot-on post and very funny, though the Ruger .45ACP humor would have been funnier (in my opinion) with "discontinued" rather than "recalled". Still a great post, though.

Alot of people will bash the PT145 but I love this handgun. The trigger is much better than a glock, even if shooting DA, (and yes i have both at my disposal) and it just feels better in the hand. 10+1 in a short frame with good sized grip.
I've been shooting for a while, had many quality guns in my time. Took a chance on a Taurus 24/7 Pro and it's awsome! Great trigger, super reliable, small, 10+1 and very accurate.

"The HK guys won't help you at all."

I'm not sure why that was said but the USP45c or HK45c. They're bigger than i'd like to carry but few .45s aren't.

I'M LOOKING FOR A GREAT CONCEALED CARRY 45 I'M 6'2 220 SO I NEED A WEAPON THAT WILL FIT MY HANDS I DONT WANT A SAO PISTOL I WOULD LIKE ANY INFO YOU GENTS CAN OFFER BUT ONLY FROM PEOPLE WHO CARRY CONCEALED NOT PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST SPECULATING OR "HEARD THIS AND THAT FROM A BUDDY" WHAT DO YOU USE? AND WHY DO YOU LIKE IT? WHAT DONT YOU LIKE ABOUT IT. AND DOES ANY ONE OWN A FOUR INCH XD45?
when I carry a .45acp it's a 4566 a bit heavy at 3lb but with the hume holster not bad.

I've been kicking around the idea of going lighter if I do it'll be a G30 or PM45

oh and I'm bigger than you with big hands.

The 1911 guys will advocate...the 1911.

The Glock guys will tell you to get a Glock 21 or 30.

The M&P guys will tell you to get the M&P 45 or 45 Compact.

Wait ...

I started out shooting a 1911 but I won't carry it ... too big.

I love my full size M&P45 but not for carry ... too big.

I am a Glock fan (had a G30 and "tried" to carry it ... too bulky) and I recommended a Taurus PT145 ...

I personally carry a G27 with Pearce +1 grip extension but the OP asked for a carry 45.

I carry the .45acp in a Colt 1911 series 70, tricked out to handle all my ammo, easy to conceal in the winter. Latley I have taken to a Kimber 1911 Ultra/ 3" barrel/ 8 shot mag works for me. I am 6'-1" @200 lbs and this gun will slip into your hip pocket with ease.

Another vote for the PT145 for your specific needs. Light, small, holds 10 rounds and handles very well. It needs to be the Gen 3, though. Handle it, shoot it then decide if it's for you. Best bang for the buck for CC.

I am 6'2, 205 LB, and 23 years old.

I have several 1911's, an XD 4" .45, a SIG P220, and USP.45.

The 1911's are great guns, but bulky for concealed carry. I love them, but a 5" is hard for me without printing. Mostly because i am belt size 34.. and have a hard time wearing obnoxiously baggy clothes. Not for me.

The P220 is also a great gun, as is the USP .45. However,

The XD i bought was initially for a glove-box gun. Just to leave in the truck, and if it got stolen one day, well, they are injection molded plastic in some factory some where.. I'm sure i could go to any old gun store, shell out another 600$, and wouldn't feel too upset. However if one of my precious 1911's were stolen, i wouldn't stop until blood.

The XD has one other advantage. being the smallest out of all of the .45's i own, i have no difficulty with printing.

You might be happy with a 8 round mag on a 1911, but i'm happier with NO printing, and a 13 round magazine.. No need for extras.

and at over 8K rounds now, no catastrophic failures. Nothing worth mentioning, except a small lot of "unsupported chamber" brass that got reloaded without running through a pass-through die. Bulged bases that prevented the slide from completely cycling.. I have never owned a glock. Will get one eventually, so i will not comment there. My feelings is it would probably run identical with the XD as far as the recommendation.

I am unbiased. the only bias i have is to the superior stopping power of the .45, no matter which ammunition type is used.

I recommend trying all of them. Go to a LARGE gun store, and finger F* every pistol they have. Find what feels best to you. Minus balance, because with a full magazine it shifts the weight of the gun.

It's okay if they are a little top heavy.

the XD is like that too. top heavy, with a full mag though, very balanced. i think that about sums it up. Hope this is of some use.

I like my Sig P245... Good DA/SA trigger. Basically a CCO sized P220. It has a commander length slide but a officers sized grip which is the hardest part of any gun to conceal. Single stack so it is nice a slim. IWB is hides as well as my CCO 1911.

I checked out a Kahr CW45 a while back and LOVED it. Kahrs are just so natural feeling in my hand. Feels way better to me than a G36, but that's a personal thing.

They're priced pretty decent, too. $410 at Bud's with free shipping right now.

My choices for compact 45s have all been discontinued by the manufactures but can still be found on the used marked. They are:
Sig P245 - the 220 Compact may still be available
S&W CS45
S&W 4513TW (pre-rail model)

I also have a S&W 325 Night Guard revolver.

My choice is the Glock 36! 6+1 rounds of .45 W/Grip Modification and finger grooves removed. IMO it can't be beat for a self defense weapon. I carry it in a Front Pocket Holster most of the time and some time in my AIWB Holster. Here in South Florida it's very easy to conceal a large gun if you know how.

I love my M&P 45c. I used to carry G27 & G23, I got ride of them to fund the M&P line.

as much as I like the Kahr , they arent readily available in the .45 and when they are they are expensive (but I like them) ,my money is on the new SIG RCS , but it will have to wait until I can make enough money to get it! (after viewing the Sig Scorpian , I want one of them as well)!!!

Just my personal opinion, but for carry guns I prefer thin, single stack guns. If I was looking for a .45acp for carry it would most likely be a fairly short list.

1. 1911 - you already said you do not want a SAO, so that is out.

2. Kahr CW45 or P45 - I prefer the CW series over the P series because I don't see what you get with the P series worth the extra money. Again that is just personal opinion.

3. Glock 36 - I'm not a Glock fan, not because I do not think it's a good gun, but because the grip angle does not work for me. However the Glock 36 did feel pretty good in the hand, but I have never shot one.

4. S&W 4513 or CS45 - I am a huge fan of 3rd generation S&W guns.

This would be my short list of carry .45's.

Best of luck
Shawn
