I need a little help iding an old single shot.

A co-worker brought it in today.It's leaving w/his dad out of state so no pics. :(

What it appears to be
single shot rimfire(but there doesn't appear to be a recess in the chamber to accept the rim.like it is a rebated rim rimfire?)
approx .25 caliber
the barrel/chamber O.A.L. is 2.125
no sights
no trigger guard
nickel plate
looks like cast iron.the plating is over some obvious grinding marks.
on the lh side of the hammer is an"H."exposed.There is more but would require disassembly.
it has a birds head grip w/the plain wood stocks held on w/one plain screw
on the lh frame above & behind the spur trigger is a stamping(illegible)that now looks like it was a rough circle.
the breech block is in two pieces the top half is on the frame while the bottom half folds back on the rh side
