First off I am new to the AR platform.

Okay I loaded up two magazines for my Stag Arms M4gery.
I put them in the safe for next day use.

Next day.
I try to put a mag in, it wont catch and stay.
I disassemble and reassemble about 10 times to see what the heck is the problem. I can't find anything wrong.

So I unload the mag and try again.

Then it actually catches and stays.

If i put one bullet in the mag it will work, but anymore than one and it wont.

I used these mags once each before and they worked fine, could someone help me out?

Magazines may be designed to hold 30 rounds, some will hold thirty-one if forced. A mag with 30 in it will probably be difficult to seat on a closed bolt a mag with 31 will be nigh on impossible.

If giving the butt (the bottom) of the magazine a good thump doesn't seat it (a mag is considered seated when the mag catch is engaged in the notch) try downloading to 28 rounds. If it still doesn't work try buying GI spec magazines.

Regards,
Ek

download to 28 or 29 as mentioned before. Then verify that it will feed rounds. Do not ride the charging handle. Just pull it back all the way and let it go.

I downloaded and checked the rounds, I believe the lacquer coating ::brown bear barnaul:: was a contributer as well.

Thanks for the help guys.

D&H mags are good stuff. if you really got those, and not the "markings vary" gunshow specials, then you are almost definitely experiencing a problem common with tier 2/3 ARs.

call stag and tell them you want it fixed. don't settle for any work-arounds, like only loading mags with the bolt open.

mags are more difficult to seat with 30 rnds but you should still be able to seat them.

Never had a problem seating mags in any of the 7 AR's in the safe, with the exception of some of the SA80 steel mags (but that was en easy fix). 30 rounds have never been a problem with a closed bolt. Rifles are built on 5 Stag, 1 DPMS, and 1 Rock River lower. Current USGI, Brownell's, Stoner Artmalight, SA80's, PMags, and Orlites.

Guess I have never heard of a tier 2/3 AR. Not sure what that is.:D

Hit the gym. :p

All of my AR15's will accept full 30 round mags on a closed bolt, just takes a slightly stronger push. Make sure you hear the click and pull down slightly to be sure the mag is fully seated.
