I recently bought some sabots that enable you to load .224 bullets in a .30caliber round but I don't have load data for anything lighter than 100/110gr bullets.

I'd like to use 55gr bullets since they're the cheapest, and I want to load them for .30-06, or maybe 7.5 MAS if I can find data that will work for that caliber as well.

I don't plan on trying to load them super hot, but will there be any problems with the sabot leaving plastic residue in the rifling or anything like that?

Do you think Trailboss powder would work alright?

I only bought these because they sounded fun and I already have a bunch of tarnished .223 bullets I wouldn't shoot otherwise. Accuracy and the highest velocity possible isn't a concern, I just want a safe load for close range plinking.

thanks

I don't think I would use Trail Boss. I'm not at all sure how it would do with such light projectile weight in a .30 cal bore.
Might have better luck with IMR-4198, or whatever the load data calls for.

Plastic residue?
Don't worry about it. A bronze bore brush & solvent would make it history very quickly.

You'll find that the sabot does not provide much support for the .224 bullet. Bullet tip runout becomes a problem if run through the magazine.
I found it necessary to use a v-block and dial indicator to center the bullet and load single shot style to maintain alignment. It gets to be a pita.
