I need something I never thought I'd ask for

Anti-tilt followers - the black GI followers will tilt forward or back. The green ones will tilt forward. I haven't used an orange (newest) one, since I started using Magpul followers.

Magpul followers don't tilt. At all. They just go up and down. They work well in aluminum tubes, but in the Magpul tubes, they are heaven.

All of the GI followers I've used will run ... until they don't. I never had one go wrong in a "situation", but in training, yeah, and one nearly cost me a match stage when it threw up all over in the receiver and tied the gun up. It was a two-gun legal stage, though, so I was cool to draw my pistol a few targets early and finish the stage.

That was the last time I used a GI follower for anything but drills and bumming around at the range. My buddy handed me a couple of mags with Magpul followers to finish the match with, and I was converted. All my "serious" mags have Magpuls in them.

Just since you asked what the deal is with the anti-tilt followers. The orange "new-new" GI followers aren't supposed to tilt, either, but I haven't tried one, so I couldn't say for certain.

Anti-tilt followers are a MUST HAVE in AR mags. The GI green ones are terrible and cause a lot of the AR/M16 problems.

Anti-tilts are the definate way to go. It's non-negotiable.

And yes, Pmags work as good or better than the original steel/aluminum mags. I prefer them, and I have plenty of trigger time.

Strange to hear so much trouble with magazines in such a proven weapon system design. NOT knocking the AR platform in any way, seriously think that's odd.

Well, it is why the followers have changed over the years - proving the weapon system includes improving weaknesses in it. There have been several generations of follower that I am aware of: metal, then black plastic new design, then green plastic new design, then commercial designs proved better than the green ones, and now the issue ones are a new orange design that is supposed to be as good as the Magpul design.

All of them *will* work, but not all of them will *always* work, and that is the critical difference. If you know that, and rely on the weapon, then you will try to find something that will *always* work, and that is why I use Magpuls.

I must be really lucky, I've never had a problem of any kind with a GI mag with green followers.

Same here. I haven't put a billion rounds through mine, though.

the cheap-o C-products black teflon coated mags with orange no-tilt followers are my primary mags; I got a bunch during the obamascare for a reasonable price and have had zero issues in my ARs or SCAR.
