This is from the Brady Campaign website regarding the .50 cal Barrett.

Sale to Civilian Population

Although primarily used by militaries around the world, the .50 caliber sniper rifle and its various types of ammunition are readily available to the public. Forbes Magazine has noted that the number of manufacturers of these sniper rifles for sale to civilians has increased from one in 1987 to possibly as many as 24 today. The boom in interest in the weapon propels this increased number of manufacturers. Drastic reduction in price of the .50 caliber rifle has stimulated increased sale and access to the weapons.21 A government study found that a used .50 caliber BMG sniper rifle can be purchased online for just $29.95

While there is no evidence that the .50 caliber sniper rifle was designed for recreational use, its manufacturers have often labeled it as a sporting rifle to legitimize their sale of this deadly weapon to the public. Curt Bartlett, former Chief of the Firearms Technical Branch at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, illustrated just how inappropriate the .50 caliber sniper rifle is for sport when he said, “anything bigger would be getting into the range of cannons.” Ronnie Barrett, creator and CEO of a major manufacturer of .50 caliber sniper rifles, even dared to call the weapon a “toy.” Unfortunately, along with everyday citizens, potential terrorists and other violent individuals have easy access to these sniper “toys” at gun stores, over the internet, at gun shows and through person-to-person sales.

Why cant I find any deals like that? :banghead:

I dont know whats up with that. The .50 has been a sporting round for atleast 140 years. My sharps is a 50-90 and it shoots a .512 dia bullet. ........I guess its just limited to .50 dia bullets.

I know where they found that deal, its a set of plans for around $30 to make your own 50 bmg rifle, I guess when they compiled that report they closed the file with the ever familiar
good enough for government work.

The $30 BMG is a Birdman hoax. From the fine people who brought you the sideways Glock sights that pop up every week. The Birdman .50 BMG was just a piece of pipe a .50 BMG round could fit in (no constriction or anything for the bullet), a crude wooden stock, and the firing mechanism was a rubber band and a rock, with a plastic spork holding it in place. It also came with a sharpie to serialize the gun if necessary. Sticker price, $29.95.

Yes, Sarah Brady was stupid enough to believe that was a real product, and would work.

This is a big part of the problem with these type of guns; we're letting the media and the opposition label the guns. So to the general public, these are "sniper rifles" and AR 15's are "assault weapons". This makes it easier to ban them, because to the general public there aren't any "legitimate" uses for them other thean terrorism. Forget the fact that the old hawken guns or other muskets were commonly 50 cal or higher.

Just makes you want to bang your head against the wall

$28 even! They must have lowered the price!

hey. That kit is illegal! Those Mountain Dew cans aren't NFA registered! :fire:

Perhaps you should review the THR policies ScottyT :p

The picture is as hilarious as the article is irritating. I don't know whether to laugh or punch the wall. :( :D
Sarge

do people actually buy that thing?

why? oh why? :barf:

i need to go back to a gun show and hug the bushmaster .50 BMG to get that junk out of my head.

LOL, thanks for sharing that...

I'll keep an eye out and let you guys know when I find these $30.00 .50 BMGs...

Not that I'm going to tell you where they are, I'll just let you know I found a good deal on a train cart full of fifties. :p

Another tax parasite shares its enlightened opinion with the world.

Guys, couldn't this be an opportunity? Shouldn't the NRA be jumping all over this and publicizing it to show just how idiotic the Brady Bunch is?

Capable of destroying armored personnel carriers, aircraft and bulk fuel and ammunition sites:what:

I reckon destroying is the same as putting a hole in it?:scrutiny:

THE THREAT OF .50 CALIBER ARMOR-PIECING SNIPER RIFLES
Wow. They can't even afford a site editor.
Looks like this war is won.
:D

By the way, how do they get 4 miles as the effective range of a Barrett? No freakin' way...

First good thing I've heard them say. Ronnie Barrett would be (and probably is) proud.
Okay, this is like the 4th time I've edited this post, but they just keep coming!:

the .50 caliber BMG anti-armor sniper rifle is no ordinary rifle.7
Why do they need a citation for a statement like that? That's like having a citation in Harry Potter.

I REALLY REALLY want a 50BMG now... just to rub it in their face!!!

I just wish I could afford it. Bohica has a good deal, but the AMMO PRICES!!!!:barf:

An inebriated circus clown piloting an elephant is another thing that could kill a police officer, but like the .50 BMG sniper rifle, never has. I'd have to double-check my stats on that, however, in regard to the drunk clown on the elephant.

Give him a Ruger No. 1 just to get Brady's attention.
