havaharts are great. put a can of out of date chicken in one monday night, and tuesday i had one of the usual suspects caught. took that bugger out into the middle of a freshly fit field (rough ground, its when you start to level out the plowed field to ready it for planting). i THOUGHT i'd just hit the door, and then wack him when left the trap with my guide gun. wrong. I've NEVER seen a critter run that fast. got 4 shots off, as fast as the critter was, he couldnt outrun that last 405 grainer'. use enough gun right??

english kanigit,

trap the little sucker and and transport him to the location of your choice, then excersize the ol' 7.62x54R ;)

i don't know why in tarnation people have to dump their cats and dogs they can't handle any more. they aren't doing their animal any favors, the cats and dogs do lots of destruction, and wind up dead anyway. be a man and do the deed yourself. saw a cat that was freshly dumped a little while ago. nearest farmhouse is 5 miles from where i saw it (not including ours - which i know he didn't belong to). it was a purebred himalayan, and i thought maybe someone lost it (since they aren't usually cheap cats). so i let it walk, and kept an eye out for lost cat signs, and listened to the radio... after a week and a half, no word. saw the cat today as i was loading up my gear. put my earplugs in, loaded the 8 mauser, and put the cat down...

i wish people would realize they need to take care of their own problems themselves...

What Dakotasin said

City Animal control officers had told him that if he caught 'em, they were "his". Supposedly, he had already caught 4. And hauled 'em off and "dropped off in a rural area" ...

Yeah, take them out to a rural area where they become somebody else's problem (like MINE).

This happens alot.

The third really nasty one gets a shot in the butt from the pellet gun at one pump.

When I was in college, I rented a cottage in a man's back yard. My bedroom window was right on his rear property line. Well, the guy who owned the house on the next street built a pen for his Rottweiler on his rear property line...right next to my bedroom window. I was working at night and going to school in the morning-sleeping in the afternoon and evening. And that dog started barking nonstop. I talked with the owner several times about it. No change. I got out the Crosman pellet pistol and pumped it up ten times. Waited for the Rott to start barking. It wasn't a long wait. That dog never uttered another sound when I was home. Ever.

Oh, the comment about cats not urinating a lake. Well, tomcats don't need to urinate a lake...a little dab will do ya.

Oh, yeah, the owner and the well-mannered cat? I'd just tell her to keep herself and her well-mannered cat off of my property if she was being uncivil as the poster implied...like right now and forevermore.

the guy down the street uses tuna fish laced with anti-freeze...seems to work well. Not very humane or nice but effective. We have far less cats since he moved in, and my live trap is always empty now...so I guessing NO cats. Its a house cat people should keep em in thier house!

mathyoo ,
If you have never smelled cat "spray",
go to the auto parts store, and purchase a bottle of 90 weight gear oil(It is pretty close in stench).
Open and take a deep whiff.
If you think you want that smell every morning as you walk out the door, well,I don't know what to say.

I knew a man here that had problems with stray cats on his back porch.
His way was to take two small screens from windows and place one on each step.
Take a long enough piece of lamp cord, attach one wire to each screen and plug it in.According to him,if they lived, they didn't come back.
Ymmv.

live traps

are the way to go in this situation. I don't want cats on my place, but I also don't want to have a potentially dangerous thing (even my smaller traps will break kids fingers) sitting on my front porch if I don't have to. Then throw the trap in the trunk and take Mr Tom and a good pistol for a ride.
