A little while ago, I was at Sportsman's Warehouse with my parents and my 15 year old brother. He wanted to look at a P99, so he went up to the counter and started drooling. It wasn't busy for once, and he wasn't getting any attention paid to him, so I stood next to him and somebody came up to me pretty quickly. It should be understood that I look quite a bit older than I am (20).
"Can I show you something?"
I said, "He wants to look at a P99, if he may."
He got it down, opened the action, and juuuuust about handed it to him. Almost as an afterthought, he said, "How old are you?"
He said, "I'm fifteen."
The guy says, "You can't see it, then," and lays it on the counter. "It's the law."
It pissed my brother off pretty bad. I handled the gun for a second anyway before handing it back, but that didn't help my brother any.

All the way home, all my brother could talk about was, "I can't believe how stupid gun laws are," and "what would it hurt to let a kid look at a gun?" and other similar things.

Whether that's actually the law, I don't know. I sort of doubt it. Anybody know?

I think he's pretty firmly on our side. :D

I went into a Gart Sports not too long ago and happened upon a Sig Trailside I wanted to look at. But no, it's not enough to shoot competitive pistol, teach gun safety, have worked a summer in a gun shop, and already own 4 of the blankety-blank things, I have to be 6 months older before they will let me touch it. :cuss:

AFAIK, there's no such law preventing such things (at least not Federally). Just knuckleheaded corporate lawyer policy.

From what I understand, 'delivering' and 'transfering' require a change in ownership, but most shops refuse to let those under 21 handle the guns as a matter of policy (saying its illegal is just an easy way out).

My brother and I have run into the same problem before. I am 23, he just turned 20. Gallyons, and the local shops wont let him handle any handguns(which I find stupid, since he and I will probally buy him his first handgun next year when he turns 21.) I can understand being leary of giving a minor(under 18) a pistol to handle, but if theres a adult present to take responsibility, I think they should be allowed to handle the firearms. Its really stupid, since a lot of time, the older person may be getting the younger person the gun as a gift. Its pretty shortsighted on the stores parts.

If you're old enough to pay taxes, vote, and risk your life in defense of your nation, you're old enough to keep and bear arms.

Aaaaaaay-MEN! That's what pisses me off about the 18/21 laws. But I guess for another year, I just get to eat it.
