I think Midway is messing with me

Twice this week I've received stock notifications about bullets and in the five minutes between the email and me hitting the link, it's gone. Very annoying.

I've been pretty disappointed with Midway lately. I used to do a lot of business with them. Recently opened a dealer account with them, and the prices are the same as their regular retail prices. Thinking that something was wrong on my online account, I've sent a couple of e-mails, the responses to which say that they're catering to the retail trade.

I also have a Graf's dealer account. Much better prices than Graf's or Midway's retail prices.

A while back Midway has a sale on factory Colt 7-round mags. Went online immediately after getting the flier and they said they were "backordered". Immediately clicked on the e-mail notification when it came a week later and to my surprise they were still outta stock.....I just figured I was too slow on the draw. However, a few hours later, I again followed their e-mail link and was able to order them. Seems their notification system was faster than their inventory system.

Their costumer service has always been great, but their computer inventory and notification system is not so good. It's in need of an overhaul. I just go in and check what's actually in stock, filtering everything else out.

Over the last couple months I have recieved 3 notifications that a product was in and all 3 times when I went to place it in my cart the system said out of stock. One time I was on the computer and only took maybe a minute but I still got beat out. Tuesday I got another notification and this time I was able to get the bullets purchased but within a couple minutes the site changed back to out of stock when I went back to check and see if there was still some there. Anyway I have 1000 55 grain 223 spire points that should be here Saturday.

Things are looking up as our local Sportsmans has maybe 30 bricks of CCI primers on the shelf as well as some powder inventory.

Um...ok.

I typically open three windows when I place an order. Midway, Cabela's, Brownell's, and sometimes amazon, depending on what it is. I place the order in all of them, go to the check-out page, and the one that has the most in-stock for the best price is the one I order from. Nine times out of ten it's Midway. Do what you want.

This problem has been happening quite a bit with Midway. I got a notification for 10mm mags and they were sold out before the page loaded, which seems ridiculously unlikely since there was a 2 magazine limit.

What's probably happening is that they are being scanned as they get unpacked or something along those lines, but the inventory hasn't been put in the system yet.

Don't assume that Midway sends everyone an email at the same time. Some customers could have rec'd their notification hours before you did.

They sent me a notice on some bullets that came back in stock. I could have bought them then , but my reloading press wasn't in stock yet, so I let them go.

I have been pretty satisfied with Midway. Most of Natchez prices are better, but it seems like things come back in stock quicker at Midway. If I have a problem, they have always treated me right. Their shipping is very fast and you pay for it. In the last 2 weeks I have spent over $700 dollars with them buying reloading equipment.

Ha. I think Graf's is messing with me. Order from early Feb, still nothing. Sure, they're busy. But they aren't even keeping with their estimates they posted on the site. And 3 times I've called they've said it should ship by X, and it has not happened. That's pretty bad customer service when you make and break 4 shipping dates.

Irritating part, I initially ordered from PV. They called me next day.

PV: sorry, website error. That item is actually out of stock. We will leave it on backorder, if you like.

Me: no, I see it's in stock at Grafs. I'll buy it there.

So I ordered it at nearly $20.00 higher price at Grafs. Now, over 6 weeks later, nothing. And it's back in stock at PV, still nearly $20.00 less.:banghead:

The government doesn't need gun registration. In this shortage, all they gotta do is get customer lists from ammo and component makers.

I've been considering making a program that monitors items I want across several distributors. Still analyzing the behavior of various retailers' inventory management systems. Turns out they vary a bit from shop to shop, with regard to availability indicators. Sometimes items listed as in-stock aren't, and vice versa. It's a side effect of using ancient technology in a modern world that doesn't understand ancient technology.

Midway's, however, has been among the best I've seen to date. They're really top of the line when it comes to electronically tracking everything.

I got a notification today on some Hornady 55 gr 224 bullets. Hit the link to order and they were available.. Got a business call and had to take it. !0 minutes later they were gone!

My only real problem with Midway is their S&H prices and the fact they charge you an additional full S&H charge when they send out something they backorder after they accept your order. They actually charged me more for shipping than the cost of the item they sent me!!! ($8.95 S&W for a $5.99 item that wasn't heavy)

Yes, it is why I do not back order from Midway unless the back order item is high dollar and the only item on the order.

I am glad that I am not a retailer in the gun business these days. definitely a no-win position.

I have had a coupe of items on the "notify" list and were sold out before I could react. Fortunately, they were "planning for the future" items as oppose to "reacting to the past" items.

I wrote a computer script that automatically places my order within seconds of receiving e-mail stock notifications.

Twice I have been notified of .22 LR in stock, only to have my hopes dashed. Oh well. I have three boxes left.

I agree, Midway shipping prices don't work out well sometimes, but most times they are OK. For the times they are not, I order elsewhere. Sometimes I order elsewhere anyway, but Midway is one of my favorites. I usually check there first or second.

People will complain about anything. Midway has kept prices with in reason and getting stock in as we'll. I have received nearly 30 different in stock email notifications. All but one or two were in stock when went to check out. I'm a Midway customer for life. Grafts is a joke right now. Their dealer site is horribly inefficient and they don't seem to be getting anything in.

Well Graff's is MUCH smaller than Midway. They are a smallish family business that has done well by me for many years. I like Natchez SS, Midway, Graff's, Powder Valley, Missouri Bullet, and Pats Reloading the best overall for reloading supplies. There is an insane pressure to deal with and all of the retailers are feeling the heat. As others have said "This too shall pass." I may have to take up knitting to keep me occupied until then.:D

I can tell you that I have multiple people chain refreshing the midway product page at known times when the product will arrive. Any slower than that and it's gonna be gone. It is what it is...

I have 3 things on bo at midway, 9mm dies, .45 acp dies, and a 9mm taper crimp die.

Wonder if they get in one of the items, but not the others is one of the ones that comes in set aside to fill my back order? Or does my backorder sit around until all three items are in stock at the same time?

Yes it does if you paid for them. They will send you a notice if 1 comes in before the others to see if you want to ship just it or wait. They charge you an extra $3.00 shipping if your order is less than $25.00, I believe.
