And I have to say. That was NEAT. They gave me and a co-worker a walk-through of the whole facility. I saw every step in the process from bar-stock on through the rifled, shaped, and finished barrels. And it's clear they take quality control very seriously every step of the way, and good folks to boot.

And I have to say, I had no idea there was so much science in barrel production! And I had no idea about the differences between factory and after-market barrels like hardness and tensile strength.

And there's a lot of history there. And a neat mix of new computer driven machines coupled with WWII era lathes.

All in all, it was awesome to see a bar of steel turned into a high precision rifle barrel.

Hi Siglite: When you were on the tour did they quote any specifics as to the difference in aftermarket barrels? Thanks For the post.

They didn't speak about others' products. They spoke about their own, in comparison to factory stuff. They're 10 points harder (on whichever scale they were using) than the factory stuff, and their tensile strength was significantly more than factory. I can't remember what they were using as a tensile strength scale, but their barrels are in the neighborhood of 132,000 and factory barrels are in the neighborhood of 100,000. He may have been talking in CUP.

They explained that this is of significant value to wildcatters and folks that are pushing pressures. I asked about harmonics, and our guide indicated that harmonics was a can of worms none of us had time for :D.

Did you ask for any free samples? or perhaps a slightly off quality barrel?
I know here in Milwaukee, that at the brewery, they'll give samples throughout the tour of the facility.

I'd have asked ;)

I would have liked to have seen that. About 25 years ago I replaced a shot out barrel on a Sako 222 with a 26 inch heavy Douglas Supreme Stainless barrel. It's been a very accurate shooter for at least 2500 rounds.
