Did the "fire until the web between thumb and firgers bleeds" bit shooting full power 41's and 44's DA. Learned to handle 4" 41's, shooting expert level. Never learned to do same with 4" 44's.

The one 44 I actually enjoyed was a Super Blackhawk w/ 10.5" barrel IIRC. Between the SA grip rolling, and the big barrrel hanging the weight out there, I actually started to like watching the targets get knocked down like I could have with a 357.

Hard to go wrong with almost any .44 Mag. revolver model. They're all fine guns. Personally, I like the S&W M629 Classic DX 6.5", the Ruger New Model Bisley 7.5" (I am a Ross Seyfried fan). My father owns a .44 Ruger Vaquero 5.5" and a New Model Super Blackhawk 10.5" and he likes both a lot.

240gr Hornady HP-XTP, 24.0gr H-110 shot out a my Ruger Super Redhawk at 100yds from a rest yesterday. The orange circle is 3" in diameter.

My Ruger 4 5/8" SS New Model Super Blackhawk and Winchester Trapper Model 94 in .44 Mag would be the last two to go.

.429 bullets do not NEED to expand.

Power: light 44 Special to heavy 44 Magnum.

Factory Ammo: any wally world or sporting goods store.

Bullets for reloading: countless bullet weights and designs.

Powders for reloading: countless acceptable powders from various manufacturers.

One of the very best calibers IMO and I have been happy with the Dan Wesson, S&W, Ruger, Winchester, and Marlin .44's that I have owned. I hope to try the Taurus in the Tracker series when it comes out in the next few months.

44 magnum

As you might infer with a moniker of 44caliber I am very enthusiastic re: 44 magnum handguns and rifles of which I own several varieties including all the brand names both single and double action revolvers. I once owned but sold the Desert Eagle semi-auto 44 magnum which shot beautifully but was a pain in the butt to clean.
Every weekend I shoot the S&W Classic or Classic DX 44 Magnum Model 629 with a 6 shot cylinder, 6.5 inch barrel, wood finger combat grips. I handload using Winchester or PMC cases, Winchester Primers, 240 gr lead or Rainier copper plated bullet, sitting on top of 22.8 gr of Winchester 296 powder. I have been shooting this load consistently for at least 8 years after extensive testing of other combinations.
I would highly recommend the S&W 629 44 magnum 6.5 inch barrel.

44caliber
