I've been thinking lately, I'd love to go on a black bear hunt, and either have it stuffed or make a rug out of it. That said, I am not a hunter, I've never hunted anything before.

My main concern is, if I bag a 500lb bear....how the hell am I supposed to drag that thing out of the woods? :scrutiny: I have a 4WD pickup that can carry a bear, but I don't think a bear is going to come sit in a nice parking spot and allow me to shoot it. ;) So if I'm out in the woods with just one other guy...how would I get that thing loaded up?

Ya dig a hole, fill it with ashes, and line the hole's edge with peas. When the bear comes in to take a pea, you kick him in the ash hole. There...ya got your bear. Now, who'll win the fight to get him out and home, I leave to you. :neener:

Bigblock, I recommend that you just go out in your back yard and call
"here bear, here bear". I'm sure one will soon come. Then just skin him and turn him loose to grow a new hide--non-consumptive use!

If you're in OR, you skin it and quarter it and pack out the pieces. A bear is mostly head, hide, bone and blubber. Get rid of the bone, blubber and guts and you'll cut the weight in half, at least.

I went on a Black bear hunt with Birddog a couple of years ago. Our guide had a steel litter that we used to carry out our bears. It was kind of like a stretcher without any fabric covering. Either that, or one of those deer carriers on wheels might work.

Skin it and quarter it is your best bet. An ATV would help.

or you could go to yellowstone or some place similar and load up the back of your truck with honey and when the bear jumps in you pop him.....
