Of these 1000 deaths every day, an average 560 are criminal homicides, 250 are direct war deaths; 140 are suicides, while 50 are accidents or cases of undetermined intent.
So as I see it,
250 deaths are from war. Removing civilian weapons does not disarm an army
560 deaths are from criminals. Disarming law abiding people does not stop criminals, who by their very nature do not obey laws
140 deaths are from suicide. Suicide rates are just as high in areas where guns are scare. people who want to kill themselves will jump from a building, overdose on drugs and alcohol, hang themselves, use gas, etc. Removing all weapons in the world will not lower suicide rates by much, if any.
50 deaths are from accidents or cases of undetermined intent.
So basically a little over 50 deaths a day (the 50 accidents plus a few of the suicides) MIGHT be lowered if we removed all guns from civilians. 950 or so deaths a day will still be there, except even more now that the populace cannot defend itself from criminals, and criminal goverments. I would imagine gun crime from criminals targeting and killing unarmed civilians would double or triple per day at a very minimum if civilians did not have guns to protect themselves with.
Many surveys have been done on how many times a year guns are used in SELF DEFENSE in the USA. Figures go from 800,000 to 2.5 Million a year. Even if we take a conservative 1 Million times a year figure, thats 2700 TIMES PER DAY, guns are used to defend a person. That 560 criminal gun death figure will shoot right up through the roof.
The 50 causes from accidents also is a pretty bogus figure when you look at general accident rates just in the US.
Leading Causes of Unintentional Injury Deaths United States, 2003
(Data from Injury Facts, 2004 Edition)
Motor Vehicle 44,800
Falls 16,200
Poisoning 13,900
Choking 4,300
Drowning 2,900
Fires, flames, and smoke 2,600
Suffocation 1,200
Just from the top 7 accidents (and no, gun deaths are not number 8) thats 85900 accidental deaths a year, or 235.3 a day in the USA alone (and thats just the top 7 I could find stats for) That means in America at least, you are about 5 times more likely to be injured in an accident from a car, falling, poinsoning, choking, drowning, fire, or suffocation than you are being shot ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD ACCIDENTALLY!!
Figure in the worldwide car accidents, falls, poisonings, chokings, drownings, fires, etc and I would bet death from gun accidents is not in the top ten of accidental deaths in the world.
Here is a scary subset of accidents just in America.
7,000 deaths occur each year due to medication errors in hospitals
12,000 deaths occur each year due to unnecessary surgery
20,000 deaths occur each year due to other hospital errors
80,000 deaths occur each year due to nosocomial infections in hospitals
106,000 deaths occur each year due to adverse effects to properly prescribed medications
Thats 225,000 people a year Doctors and Medical persons ACCIDENTALLY KILL. An average of 616.4 PER DAY!
That means you are 12 times more likely for a doctor, nurse, or perscription drug to kill you than an accidental bullet!
Statistiscs can configured to prove the point of who is presenting the figures. In the example above, I made it look like Doctors are more dangerous than weapons. In fact, in the USA, you are more likely to be healed and saved by our healthcare system than anywhere else in the globe. I would not trust the UN to provide true statistics for anything.
The USA needs to leave the UN, and kick those criminals off our shores. Many of the so called delegates are spies, and many of the so called UN officials are crooks and criminals.
If the UN was really interested in helping people, they would turn their attention to feeding the poor countries, not pocketing the oil-for-food money.
