Can anyone tell me what these are (besides 9mm)? They were taken from a Glock mag confiscated by one of the other squads in my platoon. I never got to see the glock, but they brought me the rounds to see if I knew anything about them. The rest of the rounds in the mag were just plain old ball, only the first two looked like this.

It looks like a relatively simple armored piercing round. The copper bullet is very light and hollow on the back. The whole casing and the hollow at the back of the bullet is filled with powder to try an get as much velocity into the bullet.

Is does penetrate through some opsticles that normal round will not penetrate.

These look like your round...

TRÈS HAUTE VITESSE = very high speed

The design principle was to produce a very light bullet which could be launched at high velocity (hence the name THV = Très Haute Vitesse = very high speed). The bullets had a sharp point which in conjunction with the high velocity was intended to provide excellent barrier penetration. However, the sudden widening of the bullet behind the point was designed to generate a wide wound channel, and the light weight meant that it would quickly lose velocity, both in the target and (should it miss) in the open air. It was therefore only suitable for short-range use, and SFM only produced pistol rounds. As well as the three pistol loadings in my collection it was also made in .38 Special and .45 ACP. The cartridge cases are headstamped 'THV SFM' with the calibre.

THV rounds are originally French, but those pictured Iraqi examples are non-licensed Iraqi or Serbian copies.
There are also South African versions in .32 Auto, .45 ACP, 5.56x45, 7.62x39, and 7.62x51.

No, not hot glue, dust. There's a groove right there, sorry the picture is kind of blurry.
