Idea that just popped into my head.

What if I were to post a note on my university bulletin boards, something to the effect of,

"I want to take you shooting!

I am looking for like-minded individuals who are interested in firearms for any lawful reason to accompany me to a local public indoor range, and hopefully start a shooting club on campus.

If you feel like I do, that self-defense is a fundamental human right, and that education is better than ignorance, but have never had the opportunity participate in this type of activity, please contact me. I am interested in hearing from persons of all ages, backgrounds, and genders. I am willing to work with anyone who would like to learn to shoot, barring any legal restrictions from the person posessing a firearm. I will provide equipment and supplies to get started." (I would supply an email address to initiate contace and ensure safety.)

If I have to buy a few boxes of bullets to get people started, I think it's a good investment. Has anyone ever tried this before? Maybe the local range would discount or waive their fees for a startup student. I'm just thinking I've kind of run out of potential converts.

Does you campus have some sort of shooting club? If so, they may already do something like this, and getting involved with them might be the better choice.

I know that until very recently (when I sought them out), I didn't even know my school had a club like that. Well, turns out they do - "Knights Rifle Association," and it isn't super tiny either. Then, today I hit the gym and there's a nice big banner up on the wall where there are a few advertising banners. Cool!

If they do, they aren't very well publicized. And I really would want to build a club which would attract new shooters, not just have existing shooters hang out. They don't need converting. (I am kind of on hiatus from them in between national guard schools and stuff.)

Right, any good rifle/pistol club should have shoots where they invite new shooters to come out and participate. Have you tried looking on facebook? That's how I found my club.
