Ideas on the Accu-Trigger?

I am now hunting with a savage .270 model 110 with an accu-trigger. Just curious to know if the accu-trigger would make any differance as far as accuracy and consistancy?

Is it just me or are there others out there that don't care for the "Glock Toggle" in the trigger?

Personally I prefer the Timney triggers with the nice broad trigger and nice crisp operation.

As for "safety" paying attention to where one's finger is and where the muzzle's pointed goes a long way to practicing safe gun handling.

I've never tried the Savage trigger, but I'm also not a fan for the split/insert safety trigger. I want a consistent surface on the trigger, not one that moves.

I have an older savage with an aftermarket competition trigger set as low as the gunsmith was willing to go. I also have a newer Savage with the Accutrigger. Anyone who had a early-mid nineties savage can explain why I bought the aftermarket trigger.

I like the accutrigger, but I like my other aftermarket trigger better, probably a timney. The accutrigger is a HUGE improvement over what they used to have.

Ironically I have a marlin XS7 which has what appears to be a copy of the accutrigger, and I like it better.

I believe the answer to your question is relative-- yes I think it will improve accuracy/consistency over a heavier trigger, but there are also better aftermarket triggers IMHO.

Good grief, what's not to like? It's the equivalent of a single set trigger at a Savage price. The original Savages had such a terrible trigger. It was nearly impossible to set light enough to be shoot able WITHOUT it being unsafe. A buddy had his set light, it fired upon dropping the bolt. Luckily it was pointed down range at a target!

I wouldn't touch a Savage before the accu-trigger came out. I shot one of the first ones a buddy had bought, went right out, ordered one for myself.

Some people would complain if they WEREN'T hung with a new rope!

I have & have had Savages w/ Accutriggers. Unless I was building a comp rifle I don't think I'd pay to swap it out, but with that said, a good trigger like a Timney, Jewell, etc. runs circles around it. The Accutrigger isn't as crisp, and I don't like how you can lock it up if you really soft-finger it.

Went on my first dog hunt this fall with my Savage and Remington. Switched between the two trigger types without even thinking about it. Can't say I like one better than the other.

That's the whole idea behind the Accu-Trigger. It's a user adjustable trigger that has the feel of high end aftermarket triggers. I bought a Savage Mark II .22LR with an Accu-Trigger and like said above, it's a huge improvement over previous Savage triggers. The Accu-Trigger is probably the best factory trigger now available on any out of the box rifle. (even slightly better than the current Remington trigger, IMO of course)

Personally I'd say that in current offerings it's the second best out-of-the-box factory trigger, after Sako / Tikka.

The Tikka I dryfired, felt exactly like my Accutriggers.....And come to think of it, so does the Rifle Basix trigger in my R700... They all feel and sound identical, to the AT. All very good triggers:)

I like the trigger in my other(earlier) Savage just fine. Off the shelf it was a bit draggy & sought but after adjusting it works great. There is two screws to adjust or the safety won't work.

I don't have a accutrigger but I like the ones I've tried in the stores & can't even fell the safety is in the trigger.

I have a Savage 17HMR that was just before the Accu & it sucked. The only adjustment was to shim the trigger group down from the bolt. I also have a Edge/Apex which ever it is & there is no Accu in it ether but the trigger is adjustable(again by 2 screws). It isn't a great trigger but it isn't bad.

I have a Savage 10 FCP HS-Precision with an Accutrigger and I would not state that the safety is in the trigger. If I did, I would be somewhat puzzled as to what to do with the tang mounted safety....the one that covers and uncovers the big red dot and so allows you to fire or not fire the rifle.

Never met anyone who has ever used a good trigger who cared for the accutrigger. They allow a user to adjust the trigger to the point where is unlikely you will get a bad trigger. They will not allow a user to get to the point where they are dangerous, which gan be good. They are pretty much an idiot proof design, but are also limited as to how good they can be. Guns with the accutrigger will be good, but never great. If I were buying a Savage it would be the Stevens. I'd save the money with Stevens since the stock and trigger on either would be replaced.

Those that haven't used a really good trigger and only have a worse trigger to compare them to really like the accutrigger.

I'm not saying that they are bad. They are a pretty good out of the box trigger, but those that say that it's the best trigger they've ever had may be right, but then they've probably never had a trigger like a Jewel.

If I had the choice of getting a Savage without the accutrigger and one with the accutrigger, I'd take the accutrigger, if it didn't cost me anything more. If I had to pay $100 extra to have it, I'd get the less expensive rifle and upgrade the trigger.

You can get a much better trigger on Stevens rifles just by making a new S spring from lighter guage music wire and adjusting the trigger. Quick and easy to do. I suppose it will also work on the pre-accutrigger Savage rifles but have no experience with them.

The accutrigger is a very good trigger out of the box. It can become an excellent trigger but it is no longer an accutrigger.

Just my two cents and I do have some experience with very good triggers.

I have limited experience w/ the accutrigger - the only one I've ever tried is on my Savage model 93 17hmr.

It is a very good hunting trigger. I've shot benchrest before, I know what a good trigger is and it's not in that league - but it's not supposed to be. It's about as good as a factory hunting trigger gets, not by huge margins but it is good. The blade in the trigger is innocuous in use.

Dislikes:

May just be my rifle, but if you have the trigger set to the lower end of the pull range (~2 pounds) and work the bolt hard, you can trip the safety mechanism, locking the trigger. Not a big deal on the hmr, but I think I would be very unhappy (to say the least!) if this happened to me on a big game hunt. That's enough to stop me from buying a Savage big game rifle with an accutrigger - your mileage may vary...
