Inherited my grandpas shotgun. I need help with identification so i can order a new stock. It's pre serial number. Says Springfield/ J stevens arms company. It's a 12 gauge single shot breakdown.

It's a neat gun. I love the coloring on that reciever. You don't see that much with newer guns. I tried a couple things on Google and found this which I thought was pretty cool.

That's absolutely a 94. The way it is stamped can give more information to help to date the gun, but from what I understand that's gonna be pretty wide ranges. They are neat old guns. Sadly a bunch of them got the bubba home treatment with a hacksaw. They are too nice for that, and when done that way the lock arm is not comfortable under recoil. Really nice that it's a family heirloom.

It's never been cut on, full length. I took ot and had main trigger spring replaced. One side of the stock is broken(these are famous for this) from what ive read. I just want ot back in working condition.

"I love the coloring on that receiver"

That's the color of a refinished receiver that was once case colored and re-finished with hot bluing.

I’m not so sure. You may be right, but it looks a lot like the finish on some new guns. I know it’s a different process that creates that purple hue.
