I've got a bunch of cardboard I'm wanting to cut up into targets however I do not know the proper sizes.

What are the dimensions on a standard IPSC or IDPA target?

IDPA (better image in their rule book, located here: http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf on page 73)

Another idea, if you get tired of cutting cardboard, and pasties only go so far:

Make several cardboard targets, and then using MS paint or other program, make an overlay with the A zone or -0 zone colored to match (or even better used colored paper so no margins to cut off) print a bunch off, then staple them over the cardboard when you need a fresh target.

Also, I've seen a tip to turn paper grocery sacks into IDPA targets but I can't find the link.

You would cut a couple times, fold once or twice and you were done.
