If I had $500 to spend on a .22, I would...

5 1/2" stainless bull barrel Ruger Mk III, the KMKIII512.

I'd get a .22 1911 top end used for $250, then I'd get a Caspian/Foster ss frame and finish it out, probably about $450 total when all done. Then in the future I could get other top ends if I wanted a 9mm, .40, .45acp 1911.

Cheap Ruger pistol and goodies, of course!

1-Used Ruger mkII (I like the blued bull barrel, myself) Or new mkIII
2-Ultimate Clip Loader*
3-Some extra magazines for the Ruger
4-Pile of ammo with leftover $$

*(Yes, I know it loads magazines, I didn't name the thing)

You asked - I'll tell you: Browning Buck Mark Practical URX. I bought one new, got Weaver rail, BSA holo sight, extra mag. All for about $475.00. It is a tack driver. I considered the Ruger but settled on the Browning and very glad I did. IMHO, Rugers are good, but way over rated. There may not be as many after-market add ons for the Browning, but you don't need them either. Buy a BM, get a brick of Federal SV ammo and start having fun. My particular pistol likes HV ammo but you will find each gun has it's preferences. If you can't find Federal, get Winchester. CCI is good but not the answer for everyone either.

I spent $500 out the door on a secondhand Ruger Mk II Government Competition with a Leupold M8 2x scope on top. Best weapon I own. Now if only I could get a MK II in 9mm or .45 I'd be set ;)

If I had $500, I'd spend $250 on a Ruger 22/45 MKIII, $50 on a nice set of 1911 grips and modify the 22/45 to fit the grips, then spend the remaining $200 on that federal tax stamp for the can.

Plus one on the Buckmark and Ruger Mk II, or add about 100 bucks and get the Beretta 87 Target, I love my Beretta, and my wife loves her Browning. All 3 are guns to hand down to the next generation, all are built to last. IMHO stay away from anything made by GSG, I purchased and very soon afterward TRADED a GSG 5p. At first glance they are neat looking copies in .22lr but at closer inspection their Fit, Function, Finish and Materials are not what I would expect for the price point. Post your choice and show us some pictures, we all love pictures!
ps: the SIG mosquito is made by GSG

For suppression, I'd go all out with a Ruger 22/45 or Buckmark, TacSol upper, and either a small red dot or fixed 2x/4x scope.

.....buy a Ruger MK II 5.5 inch bull barrel and drop in a Volquartsen hammer, sear and spring kit, change to target grips and buy ammo with the leftover $$$.

MKII and Tax stamp then just get your can!
Just got back a $1000 from IRS said I overpayed! Thanks for the idea! I already have 2 MK IIs

Fumbler....what kind of mod are you refering to on the MKlll 22/45 because the 1911 grips do not fit their polymer frame with built in grips...
I've looked at some Ruger Cocobolos and Target with thumb grip for the same gun but am reluctant for the mod work...???

... a Browning Buck Mark Hunter and then $150 of ammo, which would be plenty of gun to keep me happy and plenty enough ammo to keep me quite busy for a long time to come. :)
