If loaded long can you use 40 brass in a 10mm?

No, these are supposed to headspace on the case mouth. Using 40S&W brass would cause the rounds to headspace on the extractor--not good.

What Pistol are you using??

.40 S&W brass is a LOT easier to come by than 10MM (Ask me how I know:scrutiny:).

I shoot a Glock 20. One of the first things I did after I bought this G-20 was to buy a Lone Wolf .40 S&W barrel for it. You can use the same mags. on the G-20.

I can shoot the .40's through my G-20 all day now for cheap;);)..Bill.

It is a glock 20 and yes I will probally just buy a 40 barrel
When you do, be sure to run all of your .40 cases throgh a pass-through die. I use the Redding G-Rx Carbide. The tighter chamber of a Wolf barrel will not take to the "Glocked" brass too well..

Anymore ALL .40 S&W OR 10MM range brass that I receive goes through the G-Rx die after initial clean. Even though the die IS carbide, it works better with lightly lubed cases..Bill.

MY G20 has thousands upon thousands of rounds of 40S&W up it's 10MM BBL. The total effect of all this ammo is a pile of 40 brass which is nigh on to wortless in comparison to the 10MM cartridge. YEP, do have a G20 40 BBL and it does not shoot for sour apples in comparison the original 10MM barrel !
SHOOTING 40's IN YOUR G20 WILL NOT HURT A DAMN THING !!!
Consider this; in 50+ years of shooting the 45ACP I have never ever seen a single piece of 45ACP brass long enough to headspace in ANY 45ACP autoloading pistol chamber. They too were held by the extractor just like that 40 brass. My NM 45 has 55,000 rounds of this short-will-not-headspace brass through it and still shoots like a million bucks, and has the ORIGINAL extractor still reporting for duty.
And so it goes...

Starline makes and sells 10 mm brass. Even though the website says no backorders, if you call, the nice lady will sometimes take a backorder and tell you when they expect production.

Ive done the same and like terry havent had a lick of trouble. Theroretical breakage is a completely differnt thing then actually giving an example of it breaking something. Bottom line is it wont hurt a thing.

My 40's work in both My factory barrel and my Lonewolf with no issues. Its a gen 3. My understanding was that the barrels that caused bulge were in older gen Glock's.

Shot lots of .40 out of my G20 thinking it would work just as well. no problems with function but accuracy suffered for some reason, real bad. Noticeable at 30 feed. Bench rested it and could tell as the pattern was much more spread out. The extractor on glocks are super, super strong and shooting 40 does not bother the gun at all. I would not try it with my Delta Elite though.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS NOT ADVICE FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW, BUT IS ONLY A DESCRIPTION OF SOMETHING I HVE DONE WITH MY OWN GUNS.

I own a handful of 10mm pistols and wasn't smart enough to buy a barnfull of once fired brass back when you could still buy it on eBay for next to nothing. Starline brass is great stuff, but expensive if you want to load and shoot a lot, plus I never seem to return from the range with as many cases as I left with.

Noticing that 40 S&W is both plentiful and cheap, and thinking about what Clark has said about the 40 case being stronger than the 10mm (because of the small primer pocket), I did some experimentation. I loaded a 10mm starting load into a 40 case then just barely seated a bullet. I pulled the barrel from my pistol and dropped this long round into the chamber, noticed how far above the hood it protruded, then adjusted until the case head was flush.

The result is a round that 'headspaces' on the chamber leade. IOW it headspaces on the bullet and not the case mouth. My initial trial has been very encouraging but I haven't done anything else since the first trial. It's on my list of stuff to revisit when I get a chance.
