If the government DID take away our guns, where would they put them?

This might be a silly question, but I thought of this like, really? Where are they gonna put them? Are they gonna put all of our beloved guns, put them on a shipping freight and send them off to an island somewhere or what?

They always destroy the guns they acquire at those turn-in events, so I assume that they would cut, crush, and melt them down.

That. Sounds. Horrible. If that happens, I would cry. That would be like burning a child's favorite teddy bear or... smashing a teen's brand new iPhone.

Not even close, smashing the teen's iPhone might move Congress to declare a National Holiday.

They would "lose" half them to Mexican drug cartels at a discounted rate and the other half would be given to "freedom fighting civilians" (Al-quaida) in the Middle east.....duh.

I don't have pics but they're out there from other nations, usually a massive bonfire and the metal being sold for scrap. The pics from confiscations in Africa, Australia, etc are horrifying. Huge piles of rifles and shotguns waiting to be destroyed. So pointless...

Brits did that EXACT thing to all the turned in guns in 1980s. Even old Webleys and S&Ws.

Oh, they have a point and it's not "safety of the population". More like fear of the population. Yes destroy them, but in Australia there are plenty of stories about cops keeping the good ones.....

Saw an interesting show on Natl Geographic channel about Customs and Border Patrol. They store seized weapons until such time they get clearance that the weapons are no longer needed as evidence (and ostensibly that they do not need to be returned to a rightful owner, but that possibility was notably not included in the documentary). Many of the arms were ostensibly being smuggled into Mexico (like an SUV with the lining crammed full of brand new WASR AKs - with Century tags and orange warning labels still attached.

Anyways, the firearms were transported by armed convoy, in unmarked semi trailers, with escort vehicles (all very heavily armed CBP personnel), to an undisclosed auto junkyard. The firearms were then dumped into a car that was to be shredded. The car - with firearms onboard - was then lifted to a compactor and <CRUNCH>. The the flattened mass was picked up and dropped onto a conveyer belt which ran into a shredder <GRIND> - basically the mother of all woodchippers.

The chips and chunks of metal fell out into a pile on the other end for recycling, etc. Looked pretty effective on longarms and polymer firearms (AKs ground up pretty well, and Glocks just crumbled). However, I did notice what appeared to be some 1911 frames making it through relatively unscathed.

"You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass."

There would be many thousands of people who say when they take it from my cold dead hands, but most will be more than happy to turn theirs in as soon as the nice men in blue helmets start knocking on doors and checking out their daughter and wife.

Then there are a few that will try and keep them they will be the ones who hide them in the attic or bury them in the back yard under the dog house, they will be thrown in jail because they can't produce their guns.

Then there is a group that will simply drive off one day and never be seen again and reports of the "peace keeping" units being attacked will be rumored but not reported by the media...

Sorry lost my train of thought there, they used to torch the receivers of the guns and then melt them down so the employees could not steal them, but now they use industrial metal chippers that make your 870 look like confetti.

There could never be enough "agents" to locate and remove any real fraction of them, even if this were a plausible scenario.

Much of this kind of talk is motivated by, and spread at gun shows and shops by regular people wanting to make a profit from their unwanted, $uperfluous guns.

Many of these were bought after the previous election. It's not difficult to manipulate peoples' emotions. Peoples' fears and suspicions are so well understood by the $ellers. Fear is just as lucrative as greed (a single Las Vegas casino).

Guns are generally destroyed when collected.

But, the idea of a blanket gun ban law being passed tomorrow (or even ten years from now) followed by a door-to-door confiscation is almost as likely as a zombie apocalypse scenario. If guns ever were banned completely, you'll see these measures implemented slowly... think of the lobster in the slowly heated pot idea.

It might go something like this:

1) Bans on new ownership of certain weapons (ex: assault weapons bans, handguns, etc).
2) Transfer restrictions for assault weapons, handguns, etc.
3) Mandatory registration for all guns.
4) More complicated purchase restrictions (physicals, psychological tests, waiting periods, etc.)

From these four points the noose can slowly be tightened on the gun rights we all enjoy. Some people will simply refuse to register their guns, or turn them in. For failing to do so there will surely be stiff criminal penalties attached to having such guns (like an unregistered machine gun today).

Guns won't be taken overnight by the government agents in black helicopters that so many gun owners dream of. Instead, if guns are ever taken from our hands, they'll be taken slowly, by an ever increasing slew of rules, regulations, restrictions, bans, red tape, and bureaucracy... that's how they'll be taken. Your liberty may walk out the door with those guns, but that won't be apparent to most people until quite some time later.

The thing is, all of the points I mentioned above are among the ideas that the left has floated as "common sense gun laws, which will still preserve the rights of hunters and sportsmen".

I think in one country they used a steamroller to flatten them all out. What would 'they' do with the scrap metal? Probably sell it to China...

The only two reasons they were successful in taking the guns away in the UK and Australia was because the guns were already registered and...they had 'cooperation' of the public.

You can google for pictures of what they did (destroyed) with them in Australia. The photos are depressing and shocking.

Probably cut the receivers as outlined by atf guidelines then sell the parts kits to other countries for profit. Especially if they are AR15s...finally our enemies could upgrade from AKs to ARs. War is big money.

I would add to this but don't want to get banned. Use your imagination.

I can't believe this thread is still open.
