Do you think that if enough of us begged, S&W would make a 3" M696? They are putting out some rediculous guns, the 5" model 60 comes to mind, would it hurt them to put out something that would guarentee at least a couple of sales? While they're at it a 3" 686+ would be nice......

+1 on the 3" 686 or 686+. I can barely afford to feed a .357, let alone a .44, but I'd still like to see the 696 in production. Let's start a petition!

Even though the .44 is S&W's big bore caliber the revolvers chambered in .44sp haven't been great sellers in over 50 years. They seem to bring 1 or 2 out every 10 to 15 years, but sales just don't keep them in production.

If you're willing to buy 200+ of them and are willing to pay for them in advance, they'd probably do a special run for you just like they do for the big distributors.

After all, all they have to do is program the computer to crank them out. Since they have made them before they already have the software.

They don't seem to have much vision, although the success of the Thunder Ranch .44 spl might help change some minds.

Personally...

I'm hoping Franciso d' Anconia or someone of his stature will open a firearm company that does not bow to the elite, that will produce meticlulous metallurgy of blue, with firing pins on hammers. In sizes of K frames, D frames with buttery smooth actions. Produce a L frame in .44 spl, 45ACP and such.

Such a company that will tell the Elite to go pound sand with their political agendas, sleeping with the enemy, and making the chains that binds the serf, making guns locks.

Fair Price for a quality product. If the other mfgs die off...so be it.

There was an initiative to ask Smith for a run of 27s that generated quite a bit of interest in the SW forum. I don't think it got off the ground.

I think that if enough folks are serious about this, we should ask a firm like Horton or Camfour. They always get special runs from S&W. I am sure they will sell them all even if we reneged from our commitment to buy.

Know of course that any new run of 696s or 3" 686s will have the lock, and MIM parts, and laser markings, and if you're really lucky, Hi Viz sights.

Still interested? ;)

Maybe it's the new reality and I just need to get used to it but that takes all the fun out of it as far as I'm concerned....

If they would make a 4" fixed sight, .44 mag or .45 Colt, titanium, skinny barrel, I'd even look past all that!

Nope!

I would want a Steel Cylinder as a bare minimum, however; I could live with a Scandium frame!
