If You Can Shoot On Your Property, I Am Jealous

Recreational land can be a good investment. The 80 acre place we own in Garvin county was purchased in 2000 for $450 per acre. The place is a haven for deer and turkeys: Small game is in abundance. Recently turned down an offer of $140,000.

There are trade-offs. I used to drive one hour to get to Livermore-Pleasanton R&G Club. Now I can step outside. But I got a used dog from the shelter and she's scared of gunfire so I don't practice as much as i used to. I used to live 15-30 min from Costco (depending on which one). Now it's a hour and a half for me to get to Costco. I used to walk to the grocery store. Closest store is over 3 miles away and there are no footpaths. I used to have mail delivered. Now I have to drive to the Post Office. I used to walk to a deli. What's a deli? Midwest has no idea of what good food is. I never shoveled snow before I retire. Now I do. I used to carry a gun because of people. Now I carry it b/c of critters (snagglepus & yogi). I used to get quality food. Now I get food.

Congrats on your 20,000th post. I agree there are tradeoffs, can't set up a range in an apartment building.

I have never been jealous of material stuff, which makes it overly unusual for me to have a pang of jealousy when I see someone with a range of some type on their property. LUCKY.

Actually, I think I am the luckiest, as I have been granted access to a private range 2 miles down the street, and as long as I am respectful, clean and don't get in the way, I can use it any time the sun is up. Having to run the farm that surrounds it would be a daunting task for me.
