Hi everyone. Here is another of those "if" threads. A little different slant here.
You can only have three REVOLVERS for use in your home state and for the following activities:
1. hunting
2. self defense/home defense
3. competitive shooting.

Name your home state, your three REVOLVERS, what you would hunt, what game(s) you would play and how you'd stage your defensive capacity.

I'll go first: California.
hunting = 45 Bisley and dan wesson .357 with four barrels and s&w model 17 .22lr
defense = 4-inch dan wesson m15 .357
competition = s&w model 17.22lr and dan wesson .357

I currently own the dan wesson and the bisley but not the model 17.

Home state: Alaska

I own these three guns.

1. hunting: Model 29 S&W 6" (Hooved creatures and Bear defense)

2. self defense/home defense: Colt Magnum Carry 2"

3. competitive shooting: Colt Python 4" (Steel Plate)

Hunting: Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .44 Mag.

Defense: Ruger SP-101 in .357 or 9mm (I have both)

Competition: Ruger GP-100 in .357

I like Rugers!!

Hunting: Ruger Redhawk, 7 1/2", .45 Colt (also for bear defense)

Self/Home Defense: Ruger Security Six, 4", .357 Magnum

Competition: Ruger Super Blackhawk, 10 1/2", .44 Magnum (metallic silhouettes)

I'm a Ruger Revolver fan too. :D

Tennessee,

Hunting(mmmm I don't hunt but I am thinking...) Ruger Super Redhawk in .454. Lots of options there.

Defense. Ruger 3inch GP100 .357 concealable but also big enough for a house gun.

Competition. Smith Model 66 Fcomp or similar model. I would say 8 shot .357 but Nframes are too big for my girlie hands.

My home state of record is "the cotton state" Alabama.

My choice of three revolvers would be rolled into one:

A Smith N' Wesson 6" barrel Distinguished Combat Magnum,
better known as the model 686. It has all the features one needs
for a) target/range work, b) hunting, and c) home defense. Proly
the largest game I would seek here in Alabama would be the white
tail deer; and the .357 magnum is ample enough for the challenge.

For target/range work I would load that gentleman up with some
Magnus 158 grain L-SWC's, as they have proven reliable in my use
over the year's. And for home D', I'd use everybody's favorite the
125 grain JHP's from Speer (Gold Dot's), Federal (Hydra-Shok's),
or Hornady (TAP). Winchester and Remington (Golden Sabrer)
is also worthy of note. I don't hunt, so I can't make any type
of suggestions for what's best?

FootNote: FWIW, I prefer the six shot model S&W 686-5.
I have one that is a proven winner! :D

All Smith & Wesson's:

1) A J-frame, lightweight, hammerless model in .38/.357 for pocket carry. I currently use a 340PD.

2) A 686 with a 6" barrel (or 3", or 4",or whatever, if that's what floats your boat). They're great and everyone should own one, or two, or three, anyways.

3) A 629 with a 6" barrel (or 3", or 4",..............). You can also get the Custom Shop Hunter version - it's cool!.

I like S&W because they are available, fairly reasonably priced, and easy to work on yourself. There are LOTS of aftermarket goodies you can get for them too, such as grips, sights, holsters, etc.

Hard one but :
My S&W 629 Mountain Revolver (pre Mt. Gun) .44mag 4"
Colt Python .357 6" blued from 1969
S&W Model 53 .22 Jet 8 3/8 with extra LR cyl

If this rotten Sunshine State gets more dismal and leaves me with 3 , these be the ones (registered) :fire:

Alabama

Hunting: 629MG with .500 Magnum X-frame grips & .44M ammo
SD/PD: 629MG with Ahrends round non-fg stocks & 200gr GDJHP Spcls
Sport: 686+ 5" half-lug for .38/.357 and 625JM for .45 ACP/AR

Of course, my wife would have her three... 625MG, 3" 65, and 696 (I picked them...). Can I also keep three for perceptual guests? If not, I'd have to cheat.

If you could only have a battery of three revolvers ...

I'd stay away from battery operated revolvers all together.....

A M37 or 38 for pocket, a M19 4" for competition and hunting, and a backup M19. Glad I don't have to go to just three........

Carry ,plinking, hunting:

NE Pa: 1) S&W 442
2) S&W 6 in. K22
3) S&W 4 in. 27
or 1) S&W 442
2) Colt 6 in. MK3 22
3) Colt 4 in. King Cobra
or 1) S&W 442
2) S&W 19 2.5
3) SeW 6 in. 19. How can you just pick three? Looks like I need to get a 4 in, m-19 to round them out or a Colt DS?

Easy enough

.45 Bisley Ruger for Hunting.
Rossi 720 for home/personal defence
As I don't do any competetive shooting the third choice is not really that important.

CCW-SW 642....only because they don't make a 942 (642 in 9mm)
Home Defense/IDPA or IPSC Competition/Hunting- SW 610
Hunting/Cowboy Action - Ruger Super Blackhawk in .45LC

1. hunting
2. self defense/home defense
3. competitive shooting.

1. Ruger SuperBlackhawk Bisley Hunter in 45 L Colt
2. S&W 13 3" or S&W 9/642
3. 1911a1 or a S&W 19-3

I'm in the Midwest.

Hunting -- Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter (.44 Mag) -- THR's Jim March has aptly described this as the ideal .44 Mag. hunting sixgun. Scope it and hunt whitetail, feral hogs.

Defense -- 3" Ruger GP100 (.357 Mag) -- carryable but also a good house gun.

Sports -- a sweet S&W K-22 or K-38 Target Masterpiece from the good old days. Bullseye shooting. I might also do IDPA with the 3" GP100.

Hunting: 44 mag. redhawk
Defense: S&W 681, 7 shot, 3 inch barrel
competition: S&W 686, 4"

Hunting -- my 7 1/2 Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt

Self defense -- my Colt Detective Special in .38 Special (if I were restricted to a revolver all the time, I'd buy a Ruger SP 101 with the 3" barrel, though)

Competition -- Either my Colt M357 with 6" barrel, or my Colt Officer's Model Target in .22 LR.

Sticking with what I own...

Resident of Idaho

Hunting: 6.5" S&W 629 Powerport

Home/Self Defense: 3.5" S&W 27 (I really do carry this, more frequently than you might believe )

Competition/Plinking: 6" S&W K-22 (could do in a jam for small game hunting)
